**About Us** As part of the Data Team, VMware Tanzu Data Solution Engineers strategically help our customers modernize the use of their data. We accomplish this by implementing data patterns in areas like efficient access to legacy data systems, support of cloud native and platform managed data systems, and intelligent data movement via caching, event based architectures and messaging infrastructures. On this team, you'll be tackling hard, worthwhile problems for major corporations while working with a collaborative team and accelerating your growth as an architect, consultant and engineer. **About You** **What You’ll Be Doing** The VMware Tanzu Data Solution Engineer will be responsible for consulting with our clients to provide deep technical and business expertise with regards to the VMware Tanzu Data products, specifically our caching technology and messaging tiles. Key job responsibilities include the ability to architect solutions, through data domain driven development, decomposing data monoliths and analyzing the customer data landscape to architect data modernization solutions. The individual will interface (often pairing) directly with customers and collaborate with Tanzu Data Application Transformation, Tanzu Labs, Data Engineering and Data Science teams on engagements. The Data Solution Architect will also work with Engineering and Product Management as the “tip of the spear” for the development of products and enhancements.. **You Will Be Responsible For** - Drive the successful usage and adoption of Tanzu Data solutions within strategic accounts by providing expert technical guidance on architecture, design, implementation, tuning, integration and ability to scale our products in the customers environment - Occasionally support pre-sales proof of concepts involving data caching and data messaging solutions. This may involve installing Tanzu Data products, integrating with customer specified products and tuning the system to meet performance and scalability requirements - Provide consultative support to the Field and Partner Training organizations for review of deep technical training material - Work collaboratively with Product Management, Technical Marketing and Engineering during the development, launch and continuing refinement of Tanzu Data products - Present Architecture and Design vision and strategy to our customers at levels including executives to technical management and individual contributors - Evangelize the value of Tanzu Data products in architectures and deployments - Present Tanzu Data technology and vision to executives and technical contributors at prospects and customers - Work hands-on with prospects and customers to demonstrate and communicate the value of Tanzu Data technology throughout the sales cycle, from demo to proof of concept to design and implementation - Immerse yourself in the ever-evolving industry, maintaining a deep understanding of competitive and complementary technologies and vendors and how to position Tanzu Data in relation to them. - Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing to continuously improve Tanzu Data's products and marketing **Required Skills And Experience** - 5+ years of experience in roles such as customer-facing Consultant - Deep knowledge and experience building, deploying, and managing systems leveraging a variety of data technologies - Specific experience with Postgres and the associated ecosystems of tooling and related technologies - Extensive experience with Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) data warehouses such as Greenplum, Teradata, Netezza, Exadata, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Redshift, and/or Hadoop. - Understanding of traditional DW/BI components (ETL, Staging, DW, ODS, Data Marts, BI Tools) - Strong SQL programming skills - System administration of Linux is required - Understanding of the hardware and networking architecture behind large scale systems - Familiarity with standard statistical/BI packages to perform analytic calculations - Broad range of experience within large-scale Database and/or Data Warehouse technology, ETL, analytics and cloud technologies - Hands-on expertise with DBaaS, NoSQL, SQL and SQL analytics - Ability to connect a customer's specific business problems and Tanzu Data's solutions - Architect level knowledge and experience building and deploying systems leveraging a variety of database technologies - The ability to uncover business challenges and develop a solution to solve those challenges - Ability to see and present from "the big picture" to the technical details - Strong customer facing and relationship building skills including strong listening and question based knowledge gathering - Ability to work both independently and in a customer setting - Excellent communication and facilitation skills - Understanding of distributed computing approaches and concepts - Understanding of the hardware and networking architecture in support of clustered systems **Desired Sk
