**The Role**:

The Low Carbon Fuels (LCF) business will be responsible for manufacturing fuels which support our customers drive towards decarbonisation. We aim to create a material and profitable business for Shell producing fuels from sustainable and low carbon waste feedstocks such as waste oils, municipal wastes, agricultural residues, dairy manure, and waste CO2. This includes further delivering on existing technologies and pre-commercialised technologies that have yet to be scaled. The key aim of the organisation is to manufacture products with sustainability credentials valued by our customers and by doing so, generate value for Shell.
**What’s the role?**
This role is part of the LCF team with specific focus on managing feedstock sustainability in our supply chains. This will be essential to ensure the responsible growth of the business. Key focus of this role is identifying and assessing sustainability risks in our potential feedstock supply chains as projects and commercial deals develop. This includes assessing alignment with Shell’s Respecting Nature commitments.
Bring us your extensive experience in sustainability, environment, or human rights issues and you could be at the heart of establishing our LCF business and ensuring license to operate for our Hydrogenated Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA), New Fuels and Renewable Natural Gas assets.
The sustainability advisor will lead feedstock sustainability risk assessments and advise our projects on suitable mitigations. The role will also be key for identifying and implementing best practices and setting standards and collaborating internally and externally with partners and stakeholders.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Take a leading role for sustainability support to LCF projects and due diligence for acquisitions and supply chains, including input to project and investment decision documentation. Conduct initial feedstock sustainability risk assessments.
- Further advancement and implementation of the sustainability strategy across LCF, including implementation of the LCF sustainability position, and identification of sustainability improvement opportunities in the LCF HSSE & Sustainability management system.
- Supporting the Sustainability Compliance Officer in ensuring that biocomponent purchases and contracts are in accordance with our sustainability policies and in maintaining compliance reporting.
- Supporting the Sustainability Manager in thought leadership for sustainability in LCF supply chains and establishing Shell as a sustainability leader in responsible LCF production.
- Supporting the Environmental Advisor to implement Respecting Nature into our sustainability approach and our supply chains.
- Work with colleagues in sustainability strategy and competitive intelligence to monitor external sustainability developments for best practices that Shell may want to adopt.
- Represent Shell at industry bodies for sustainability, ensuring that our views are heard and that we continue to be seen as a force for good in the biofuels industry.
- Identify and manage environmental/sustainability contractors and quality assure deliverables prepared by contractors.
**What we need from You**
The following are some of the experience and qualification requirements
- Degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering (mechanical, chemical or process), economics, or business (or similar).
- Expertise in at least one of the following areas: sustainable agricultural or forestry practices, modern slavery, human rights, supply chain sustainability, biofuels sustainability certification bodies, or biofuels regulations.
- Recognised as someone who simplifies, seeks outcomes that benefit the enterprise and society and has courage to take decisions in the ambiguity and uncertainty of the energy transition.
- Experience in identification, development and implementation of best practices, environmental management, and policies in complex organisations.
- You might have experience of working with NGOs, round tables and industry bodies and can identify where you have successfully built relationships that deliver better outcomes.
- You will need the capacity and tenacity to translate complex external perspectives into clear advice to projects, portfolio decisions and to inform external engagements.
- This position requires strong project management skills and an ability to work independently.
- The position requires strong interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder management and liaison with different internal and external teams. Ability to communicate effectively across all operational levels of the organization as well as with suppliers and customers and present a wide range of environmental and sustainability topics to large groups.
