**Primary Purpose of this Position**

To specify, design and verify code for FPGA devices in the field of hand-held measurement instruments for high-performance data cabling systems (up to 3GHz), including support for full product lifecycles.

**Responsibilities**
- Specification, design, and verification of FPGA code for Xilinx devices using VHDL
- Code includes logic and control for an embedded system, high-speed data capture, and signal processing including filters and Fourier transforms
- Maintenance of existing VHDL / Xilinx designs
- Collaboration with other team members including hardware and software engineers to agree system architectures, designs, interfaces and protocols
- Requirements capture and translating product requirements into technical requirements for the FPGA system
- Documentation of design specifications and implementation details, including detailed programming information for the software team
- Assessment of performance criteria - gate count, timing constraints, power consumption, memory requirements etc.
- Development of appropriate test environments and test vectors to prove that the designs work as they should, and documentation of test results
- Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and codes of conduct
- Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management

**Requirements**:

- Proven track record of FPGA design, ideally in a product development environment
- Familiar with the Xilinx toolset and development environment
- Familiar with debugging / analysis tools such as ChipScope
- Good communicator including excellent verbal and written English
- Ability to work autonomously with mínimal supervision, including time management and prioritisation. Project management experience would be beneficial.
- Team player who enjoys interacting with a group of highly-motivated engineers
- Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues at a system design level, collaborating across multiple disciplines
- Flexible approach to working in a small team, requiring a hands-on approach to getting things done

**Other useful skills - not essential, but beneficial**
- Good knowledge of DSP techniques including filter design, Fourier transforms etc. would be very beneficial
- Use of mathematic tools (Matlab, Mathcad or similar) to develop algorithms would be beneficial
- Experience in the design of data networks would be beneficial
