**Overall Job Purpose**

The Youth Pathways Coach will be an experienced and knowledgeable person so as to provide leadership and direction in high performance management, coaching programs and use of sports science, and plan for and implement the development of cycling in three main areas, viz. a) mentorship for the training and development of Singapore Club/Team coaches b) plan, develop and deliver customized training programs for athletes c) co-develop, with the SCF Head Coach, a long term high performance plan, with an emphasis on youth and Club/Team pathway development so as to achieve and sustain Singapore’s medals count at the Major Games and Championships and d) co-develop with the SCF HPD a pathway structure for Clubs/Team with the emphasis on education and engagement.

The person must therefore possess a recognized Technical (Cycling) Coaching Certificate (minimum Level 1 or 2 or experience equivalent) with a good track record of past coaching and high performance achievements. Or achieve Level 1 in the next 6-month period from the commencement of the position.

For the purpose of role clarity, the Youth Pathways Coach will also perform the roles of assisting National Coach with the Singapore National Team.

**Responsibilities**:
1. **1. **Youth Pathways Coach**

(i) Identify the best talent through avenues such as but not limited to: schools, expos, clubs, competitions, media recruitment drives, talent transfer opportunities (eg BMX, Rowing, Triathlon) and e-sport and deliver them into the National Pathway

(ii) Provide support and capability building opportunities to Club/Team coaches

(iii) Engage Clubs/Teams to assist in developing young/new riders who may not be ready to join the National Development Squads

(iv) Lead and coordinate development of riders entering the pathway, maintaining open communication with Club/Team coaches

(v) Keep abreast of best practice talent identification and development.

2. **Coaching**

(i) Coordinate and conduct session for the following programs BMX Academy, Track Academy, Kids Clinic Program

(ii) Create Initiatives that will get Kids on Bike’s

(iii) Mentor identified NDS / NTS Athletes during National Service

(iv) Maintain training attendance records using provided template

(v) Quarterly report to summarize athletes’ progress

(vi) Co-ordinate with SSI and NYSI for strength and conditioning and sports science requirements such as but not limited to nutrition, recovery, physiological testing

(vii) Run training camps with significant value-add sports science/monitoring and expert coaching support from National Team coaches

(viii) Longitudinal monitoring of athletes through competitions, training and sports science testing

(ix) Discuss and execute Athlete goals and KPI before planning of YPI for the following year

(x) TID (Talent Identification) for Endurance NTS and by working closely with Other Development Squad Coaches

(xi) Prepare athletes, mentally and physically for eventual transition to the NTS, with consistent representation of Singapore teams at regional and international competitions

Attend and assist with official NTS Endurance training sessions as coordinated by the HPD

3. **Transfer of Expertise**

(i) To mentor and train identified club coaches, as and when required and conduct SCF community initiatives

**QUALIFICATIONS**

1. Level 1 (Technical - Cycling) or Equivalent Coaching Certification*

2. A University Degree in a related field of study would be an advantage but not essential
- *For those individuals without a Level 1 Certification, he/she must endeavor to be appropriately certified within a time frame of 6 to 9 months**EXPERIENCE**

1. Have proven track record of success at performance sports and is (preferably) still involved in coaching in one way or another

A past performance cyclist and/or who understands the local sports system and with some understanding of the same at the regional and international levels

**SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE**

1. Strong understanding of Technical Rules and Regulations of the UCI and SCF

2. Able to understand and plan core training concepts including periodization, training phases etc, coordinate, and review the sports science, coaching needs, and allocate resources to optimize performance

3. Able to develop and plan coaching programs for the development pathways for athletes

4. Be familiar with athlete support programs and policies administered by Sport Singapore

5. Be familiar with the requirements on the Code of Athlete Management which includes establishment and implementation of fair and transparent athlete selection policy, implementation of athletes’ agreement, adoption and adherence to anti-doping rules and policies
