**Job Description**:
Role Summary/Purpose
The APAC/India Senior L&E Counsel for GE Vernova is a qualified Lawyer specializing in laws & regulations/policies & practices as it pertains to employees, including in the areas of benefits and compensation across the APAC region plus India and in addition manage external counsel support in China. Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may influence work.
The location is flexible and can be home-based (with travel to sites required per needs of job), and the role will support multiple Vernova businesses across the region. The position will be expected to work as part with cross functional teams to support the business L&E needs as required.
Essential Responsibilities
- The role will have the following responsibilities:
- Providing legal advice and support on Labour and Employment law issues to GE Vernova businesses across APAC/India and also manage external counsel in respect of China. Provide legal and compliance advice across a wide range of issues, including, for example, employee and union relations; cross border restructuring projects, redundancies and outsourcing; equal opportunities and diversity; employment litigation; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; collective bargaining obligations; employee discipline, grievances and termination; drafting of employment separation agreements; working time obligations.
- Retain and work effectively with outside counsel where required, and manage external counsel to reduce costs, secure value-added services and improve ‘make vs buy’ decisions.
- Work as part of the L&E team to drive simplification initiatives and consistent enterprise standards for Labour and Employment support across the APAC Region, India and China.
- Providing training for the HR and business teams on key employment and compliance risk areas.
- Keeping abreast of relevant legal developments across APAC, India and China.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Qualified lawyer in at least one regional jurisdiction in which Vernova has significant headcount.
- Substantial legal post-qualification experience of labour and employment law in APAC, including detailed knowledge and experience of labour & employment law.
- Demonstrable fluency in English, including ability to draft and negotiate and present legal and business documents. Additional language capabilities would also be an advantage.
Desired Characteristics
- Preferably time spent both with a leading law firm or in-house with a large multinational corporation, that includes:
- Extensive “hands-on” labour & employment legal experience, including experience of handling cross-border matters and major projects; and
- Substantial experience and success in working with senior management and international environments
- Superior advocacy skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in writing and orally, an aptitude for practical negotiation, the capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, and the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests.
- A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism, and passion for excellence.
- A work history that affirmatively demonstrates leadership, and ability to persuade and push others to deliver on commitments.
- Superior negotiating skills and ability to work in complex international environment, substantial experience working in different cultures and an open and tolerant mind with respect to diversity.
- Demonstrable computer literacy with specific ability to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and other software such as redlining tools.
- Strong project management and prioritisation skills
- Record of dedicated and successful teamwork, excellent interpersonal and diplomatic abilities.
