Underwriting Manager

**OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB**

Participate in the product design and pricing policy of the company, as well as development of the underwriting philosophy. Develop and manage relationships with local insurers, maintain and update quote engines and ensure underwriting targets are met across your area.

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

Underwriting
- In conjunction with the Regional Head of Underwriting, actively participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of underwriting processes.
- Keep written guidelines and manuals up-to-date, circulating details of any changes or developments across the business so as to ensure adherence to underwriting standards.
- Maintain Underwriting Team Database including information on underwriting decisions, portfolio rate actions and turnaround response times.
- Provide training and support sessions for Business Development, Operational teams and Fronting Insurers to ensure awareness and understanding of underwriting standards.
- Work closely with the Business Development teams to contribute to the strategic direction of our medical plans, ensuring that our pricing and underwriting conditions are commercially viable whilst also providing adequate risk management for the company.
- Take all necessary corrective actions to maintain the long term viability of the portfolios.
- Act as technical point of reference for all Operational and Business Development staff within your assigned region.
- Perform underwriting performance analysis of all product lines.
- Participate to the development of policy wordings and new products.
- Provide underwriting input to large group schemes and complex claims.
- Engage local insurers and maintain the company’s relationships with them.
- Represent the company in meetings with local insurers.
- Participate in the monitoring the underwriting performance of all the company’s portfolios and assist the Regional Head of Underwriting in the preparation of management information reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to be submitted to the board of the company and the insurers.
- Prepare all quotations for the assigned region.
- Monitor the FMU process for individual policies in your region.
- Maintain and update the group quote engines and perform data analysis if required for updating the engines.

Compliance and Security
- Take responsibility for establishing and maintaining up-to-date personal and team’s awareness of all legislative, regulatory and Company-specific rules, policies and procedures related to performance of the role. Ensure consistent compliance with legal, regulatory and Company standards in line with underwriter requirements.
- Work in conjunction with the Head of Legal and Compliance to ensure that our expansion projects comply with all regional legal/regulatory standards, and that any changes in laws or regulations are built into our project plans/operational processes.
- Pay particular attention to the Company’s Information and Data Security policies when accessing and using all Company systems which may provide access to sensitive information assets, and strive to maintain the highest possible standards of information protection at all times.
- Take individual responsibility for accessing only the systems, records and information required to perform the role. Treat all data contained within those systems in a manner consistent with the Company’s Information and Data Security policies, and in line with the confidentiality clauses provided within the employment contract.
- Ensure any regulatory requirements relevant to the individuals role are met, include certain qualifications and CPD.

**SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**
- Highly IT proficient; expert Excel skills essential, exposure to Visual Basic preferred.
- Actuarial experience would be advantageous
- Experience of manipulating product and financial data to produce quotations
- Business level written and spoken English is essential. Command of Chinese and Mandarin would be advantageous.
- Numerical and analytical skills - able to extract, analyse and manipulate data in order to produce underwriting triangulations
