**Job Purpose**

The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing and interpreting diagnostic procedures. He/She is also responsible to undertake related laboratory activities in order to provide quality laboratory service to our customers, both internal and external.

**2. Duties and Responsibilities**
- Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)

2.1.1 Participate in the reception of laboratory specimens and rejection of those that are unsuitable for analysis.

2.1.2 Operate the Laboratory Information System to perform functions such as order entry, result entry, result collation & certification and result query.

2.1.3 Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols.

2.1.4 Ensure that 'critical values' are reported to appropriate personnel.

2.1.5 Resolve queries from customers.

2.1.6 Report adverse incidents to the supervisor.

2.1.7 Perform, record and interpret results of quality control procedures and take corrective action where indicated.

2.1.8 Undertake simple preventative maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and perform simple troubleshooting in the event of malfunction.

2.1.9 Comply with laboratory inventory management procedures.

2.1.10 Comply with good laboratory practice as set out by the Laboratory Accreditation Programme of the College of American Pathologists and Singapore regulatory agencies such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit.

2.1.11 Comply with all requirements of the Laboratory Safety Manual.

2.1.12 Keep current with new instrumentation, techniques and procedures by attending/participating in appropriate workshops, seminars and inservice education classes.

2.1.13 Assist with the conduct of in-service education and continuing education classes.

2.1.14 Assist with coaching of trainees and new staff in laboratory procedures.

2.1.15 Guide Laboratory Technicians, Clerical staff and Health Attendants in their work when required.

2.1.16 Perform shift duties as required.

2.1.17 Promptly carry out the instruction(s) of senior staff with regard to work procedures and duties.
- Secondary Duties and Responsibilities (20%)

2.2.1 Undertake back-up procedures in the event of emergencies such as loss of electrical power and information system crash.

2.2.2 Participate and contribute to project teams as required.

2.2.3 Participate in laboratory administrative work such as filing, processing of deliveries orders and invoices.

2.2.4 Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- **Job Specification / Requirements**
- BSc or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent with five year's clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Good laboratory skills.
Above average dexterity with good general health and no colour blindness.
Basic computer literacy.
Good planning and organising skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Service orientated and customer focused.
