The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) is seeking an Associate Director for its Innovation Centre who has the passion to grow the innovation/entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore. The SMART Innovation Centre seeks to help grow the innovation/entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore in science and engineering with a focus on fundamental innovation, also known as “Deep Tech”. The Centre assists faculty, researchers, and post docs from SMART and all the Institutions of Higher Learning in Singapore to drive their research to commercial impact. The Centre operates grant programs that include hands-on mentorship and management for advancing innovations closer to company formation. The Associate Director should have experience mentoring researchers in commercial impact and have experience with spin-off companies. The Associate Director will also participate in working groups analyzing innovation paths in markets, science and technology, and implementation of technology.

The Associate Director will report to the Director, Innovation Centre.

He will work closely with the researchers from the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) and provide them with guidance and mentoring to drive their projects to commercial success.

He will also take a leadership role in our training, education, and mentoring initiatives to help advance deep technology to commercial impact.
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Deep Tech commercialization with 3 years’ experience in a start-up company.
- Knowledge of product development and company formation and financing.
- Knowledge of the MIT Innovation ecosystem and Singapore business community are preferred.
- Familiarity with the academic environment is highly desirable.
- Have passion to mentor faculty, researchers, and postdocs and help drive research to impact through company formation.
- Demonstrate excellence in communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and collaborate with others.
- Good judgment in handling confidential matters; and interpersonal understanding and organizational awareness.
- Highly motivated and willing to work independently and as part of team.
- Able to work collaboratively with individuals from all administrative and research levels.
- Must be energetic, proactive, and achievement oriented.
