Technical Theater Specialist

**Overview**
This role is an opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art Performance Spaces as our Theater Audio Visual Specialist.
Singapore American School puts on a variety of Performing Arts events every year, including Dance, Music, Drama, and Musical Theater performances.
We host them in a variety of venues, including:
- Auditorium - a 840 seat, a Constellation-equipped Proscenium Theater
- Drama Theater - a 305 seat, a Greek amphitheater styled Theater
- Theater Studio - a 120 seat, Black Box flexible performance space
- Elementary Theater - a 350 - 650 seat, Proscenium Theater
This role will allow you to have artistic and creative control over the events you participate in, and allows you to support and educate Student Technicians learning these skills, empowering you to hand over the reins to them.
**Responsibilities**
- Be responsible for all the theatrical AV equipment, Wireless Intercom System and data across our several performance spaces
- Strong knowledge Live Sound Engineering (e.g., Setting up microphones for a Live Band, Live Sound Mixing, etc.), for events ranging from conferences to large scale musicals and concerts with full mic’d casts and live bands, using onsite equipment and hiring in as needed
- Be present for all performances and rehearsals. Design, program and operate the audio equipment.
- proficient with major Digital Sound Desks for various uses from concerts to musicals
- Familiar with set up and routing for our Projection Systems
- Educate the students of the roles and responsibilities of an AV Technician.
- Delegate tasks to other members of the team and to students as appropriate, when approved by the Theater Coordinator
- Attend production meetings and contribute to them with your own ideas and suggestions
- Support simple presentations / Assemblies with basic lighting and AV requirements alone (training provided)
- Keep the Control rooms and stores in a clean and orderly condition.
- Lead and supervise the load in / load out of AV equipment and cabling in a safe and responsible manner.
- Understand and be willing to learn how to support other departments when needed.
- Present ideas for what training you would like to be provided with by the school to advance your skill set as a Theater Technician
- Book and Lead the Custodian staff when needed on events / performances.
- Responsible for troubleshooting, fault finding, repairs and maintenance of all departmental AV equipment across the performance spaces.
- Be able to work closely with the rest of the theater crew in support of larger scale projects.
- Clearly communicate your projects and the support needed in regular production meetings. (e.g., Requesting Casual support / external contractors as needed, etc.)
- Participate in the procurement and maintenance of our inventories.
- Handover your responsibilities during leave to other members of the team to ensure a seamless transition during your absence, accept temporary assignments when others are on leave
- Can lift 25Kg unaided, work with a team to lift objects safely. Confident in asking for help when needed.
- Model good industry practices to our students and colleagues
- Perform other duties or appropriate requests as assigned by the Theater Coordinator.
**Contract and hours of work**
- Full-time Position
- 12-month rolling contract 40 hrs / week flex schedule
- Shifts offered are completely dependent on the needs of the school and applicant will be informed of their shifts in good time to respect a good work - life balance.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.

**Essential Skills**:
- Diploma in Technical Theater or equivalent is desirable
- At least 5 Years experience in Sound Engineering for bands and large scale events.
- Knowledge of digital and analog sound desks and control systems.
- Experience using and programming with Qlab
- Experience using Logic
- Knowledge and understanding of audio power / signal pathways and electrical and electronic systems, fundamentals of audio engineering
- Enthusiasm towards developing your skill set through annual training opportunities.
