Data Scientist

**Duties**:

- Develops, adapts, and implements common data standards and metadata schema for discoverability and interoperability of data.
- Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams to identify and respond to data science needs.
- Performs queries using various types of database and analytical tools (e.g., SQL Server).
- Conducts statistical analysis on available data and presents findings in the most relevant format, including text, graphs, charts, tables, and models.

- **Basic Requirement**
**Degree**:Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
- **OR**
**Combination of education and experience**: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

**GS-11**:
**Specialized Experience**: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience designing or conducting a data research project; acquiring and analyzing data; and using analytic or statistical software for data analysis or summaries.
- **GS-12**:
**Specialized Experience**: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience designing or conducting a data research project; acquiring and analyzing data; using analytic or statistical software for data analysis or summaries; and developing guidelines, policies, or procedures within and organization.

**Specialized Experience**: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience acquiring and analyzing data; developing methods and techniques relative to data mining, ingestion, or wrangling; using analytic or statistical software for data analysis or summaries; and developing guidelines, policies, or procedures within and organization.
- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
