We are currently recruiting an Animal Research Facility Engineer (Senior Assistant Manager/Manager) to join a team of dedicated lab animal technicians and vets, located at the Research Support Building, main NTU Campus. The facility is licensed by the Animal and Veterinary Services at NParks and houses various lab animal species used for research purposes by the NTU scientific community.
As the ARF Engineer you will be working with a team of dedicated staff to ensure the facility complies with all the regulatory requirements of the Ministry of Manpower, relevant for the inspections and maintenance of equipment and ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations. This role requires experience and competence in managing the ARF Building Management System, automated water systems and differential pressure regimes. Our teamwork approach ensures legal compliance and the highest standards of animal care and welfare are fulfilled, as we support our researchers in achieving scientific excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that environmental parameters are within the set range for the animal facility and address any breakdown/malfunction of the equipment responsible for maintaining environmental parameters.
- Perform regular checks and maintenance of the facility and its equipment to ensure minimum disruption for the animals. Repairs must be carried out in a timely manner, if necessary.
- Ensure that maintenance and repair works are carried out in a safe manner with appropriate risk assessment done and approved prior to start of work.
- Address the needs of the researchers, which may vary from time to time especially setting up equipment, modifying the layout for running experiments, and any other requirements.
- Help with budgetary requirements for maintenance and running/operations of the facility infrastructure and equipment. Assist with the associated claims and procurements for the facility.
- Draft maintenance and specialist contracts and procure them on a timely basis.
What we are Looking For:
- Minimum degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of working experience as an Animal Research Facility Engineer. Must be knowledgeable with Animal Facility Building Management System, automated water systems, and differential pressure regimes.
- Experience with working under AAALAC accreditation would be advantageous.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and biosecurity protocols.
- Attention to detail and excellent record keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong commitment to animal welfare.
