Senior Legal Counsel

The purpose of the Legal team is to ensure that the Marex Group is able to pursue its international business objectives with the appropriate level of legal risk. The Legal team will provide advice to management and business divisions on transactional M&A, litigation, regulatory, commercial contracts, capital markets, banking, real estate, employment and other contentious and transactional matters. The Legal team is a key component in the Control and Support infrastructure at Marex and regularly works with other teams such as Risk, Compliance, Operations and Finance to provide comprehensive advice to management and the business divisions.

**Overall purpose of the role**:
1. To provide assistance to the Group Head of Legal to oversee the legal activities of the Marex Group within the APAC region;
2. To assist the Group Head of Legal with urgent or ad hoc legal matters relating to a range of corporate, banking, IP, transactional legal, litigation and other matters affecting the APAC entities within the Marex Group;
3. To review regulatory developments affecting the APAC entities within the Marex Group;
4. To provide advice on the legal aspects of the development of the Marex Group's business in APAC, whether through organic growth or acquisitions;
5. To carry out legal work arising from implementing new business areas and integration of existing businesses deriving from acquisitions;
6. To oversee employment external legal advice relating to employment contracts with APAC entities within the Marex Group, including hiring and terminations;
7. To report into and regularly update the Group Head of Legal in the UK on developments relating to the APAC entities within the Marex Group; and
8. To manage advice from external counsel and associated costs.

**The duties of the role will include (but not be limited to) the following**:
1. Providing support and assistance to the APAC business of the Marex Group;
2. Assisting the Group Head of Legal with ad hoc legal queries relating to the Marex Group when they arise;
3. Day-to-day management relationships with internal stakeholders in APAC region;
4. Assist the UK Legal team with negotiation of legal documentation relating to corporate acquisitions in the APAC by the Marex Group;
5. Overseeing legal implementation of acquisitions into the APAC entities within the Marex Group;
6. Responsibility for overseeing the maintenance of the Marex APAC entities' intellectual property portfolio, including ensuring appropriate registration of patent, trademarks and domain names worldwide;
7. Involvement in drafting and implementing the Group's regulatory driven policies and procedures;
8. Liaising with external lawyers where required;
9. Assisting the Group Head of Legal with the review of APAC regulatory developments affecting the Marex Group;
10. Working closely with the compliance team to provide strategic guidance and support on legal regulatory matters;
11. Drafting and negotiating bespoke customer agreements and communications for customers of the APAC entities within the Marex Group as may be required from time to time;
12. Responsibility for ensuring that the APAC entities within the Marex Group's customer documentation is compliant with new regulatory requirements from time to time;
13. Assist the Group Head of Legal with litigation relating to the APAC entities within the Marex Group;
14. Advising on inter-relationships between APAC and Non-APAC entities within the Marex Group from a regulatory and legal perspective; and

15. To carry out projects within the Marex Group Legal team as they arise from time to time.

**Skills and Experience**
- Strong academics. Training and PQE experience in city law firm. In house experience within a financial services environment is essential.
- Native fluency in English is essential.
- Good communication skills, appropriate level of legal knowledge, strong work ethic, be keen to work as part of a team and undertake a variety of different types of legal work.
- Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
