Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths.

**Summary
This is an exciting and fast-paced role within Oxford Nanopore’s recently established Corporate Affairs team.
The role will be the first full-time regional internal post dedicated to Government Affairs (GA), and as such will be responsible for establishing strategies, processes and skills required for a long-term successful government affairs function. As a regional role, this will include coordination of work programmes across different geographies within the region and collaborate with many teams in the Company.
**Key Responsibilities:
- Establish capabilities for a government affairs role in APAC, through direct work and over time through building consultancy or additional team capacity, as well as training colleagues in government engagement skills for collaborative activities.
- Oversee analysis of global government-driven policy areas and government-driven programmes in the region, to determine opportunities and potential impact on Oxford Nanopore’s immediate and long-term growth. Work with internal stakeholders to set priorities for engagement, that are commensurate with company priorities for short, medium and long term in the region.
- Works with internal stakeholders to establish strategies and execute on those strategies for engagement.
- Policy analysis, positioning and engagement
- Responsible for identifying and monitoring government legislation, regulation and public policy with the intent to optimize the business environment and access of research customers, future applied and clinical market end users and beneficiaries of the technology.
- Work with internal stakeholders to establish company positions on government regulations and communicates positions internally and externally.
- Educate public policymakers on issues and initiatives that support and advocate for our industry and business.
- Create and maintain a positive leadership image and business climate for Oxford Nanopore with senior decision makers in the region.
- Work with all business units on strategies and matters involving and needing government relations.
- Effectively represent the company through direct advocacy and participation in government processes and programmes
- Help manage major company events and high-profile meetings and visits with government officials.
- Intelligence gathering
- Monitoring policy/legislative and broader scientific/ government ecosystems as best suits the appropriate region, to understand their impact or potential impact on the business and share this intelligence appropriately.
- Advocacy network
- Working with broad internal stakeholder including legal teams, to coordinate a company-wide approach to trade organisation membership and participation.
**Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience working with legislators/policymakers or the equivalent understanding of the policy landscape in APAC.
- Understanding of the main regulatory environments
- Excellent communication skills, including experience communicating and presenting to senior-level stakeholders, both inside and external to the company
- Strategy and planning skills: the ability to bring reproducible and efficient processes to a complex international function.
- Experience in the APAC region with compliance/governance requirements of government engagement or trade association membership and understanding of integration of those standards inside a company.
- Demonstrates business acumen with knowledge of current policies, practices and competitive landscape, as well as future trends and challenges in the marketplace.
- Significant experience reading, analysing and interpreting policy/legislative and regulatory documents.
- Ability to build strong relationships, collaborate with and lead teams, and work well with cross-functional colleagues.
- Able to assess and manage risk, accept accountability, and to offer viable alternative strategies, as necessary, to achieve goals.
- Strong problem solving and negotiation skills.

- Ability to direct multi-stakeholder education and advocacy efforts.
- Capability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and with strong organizational skills and attention to prioritization among conflicting demands.
