The Manager, Student Care is part of the University community-based system that seeks to establish and provide a pastoral/student care support system to students in the School of Humanities. The goal is to facilitate academic, emotional and psychological growth of students and develop their resilience to overcome challenges, improve their personal effectiveness and enhance their emotional health so as to achieve their potential in their academic journey in NTU.
**Responsibilities**
**Pastoral/Student support and guidance**
- Provide case management, coaching, mentoring and/or counselling to the students (undergraduate and graduate), particularly those with problems or potential problems, which include academic and personal issues. The aim is to help these students who would otherwise be saddled with concerns that would impede their academic pursuits.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to handle students and faculty in various situations, such as crisis, home visits, etc. for clarity and consistency in approach and to continually review existing practices to improve quality and timeliness of service.
**Outreach and Education**
- Maintain close communication and collaboration with the management of the College and Schools, fellow Student Care Managers, and Student Wellbeing Centre to build awareness within the community on student well-being.
- Plan and organise talks/activities for students on mental health (stress management, better buddy system, etc.) at Freshmen Orientation and the school events.
- Conduct briefings to students going on overseas student exchanges, summer programmes, etc. to equip with the survival tips to maximise the learning experience.
**Prevention and Early Intervention**
- Plan and organise workshops for faculty on mental health and early intervention so that they have a better understanding of the mental health issues and able to detect students with issues as early as possible for them to be given the necessary help and care.
**Crisis Management**
- Work closely with medical and counselling personnel at Student Wellbeing Centre to make referral or provide case consultation/counselling where needed.
**Complaint Handling**
- Follow-up appropriately on complaints made against students and disciplinary cases.
**Requirements**:
- A degree from a recognised University in a related discipline such as Psychology, Social Work and Counselling
- Experience in a professional counselor role or student care
- Familiarity with student affairs in higher education will be advantageous
- Passionate in nurturing young people and challenging them to achieve their desired career goal
- Good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
