Job Summary

A Sports Massage Therapist specializes in providing therapeutic massage techniques to help athletes and active individuals enhance performance, prevent injuries, and recover from physical exertion. They use deep tissue manipulation, stretching, and rehabilitation techniques to improve flexibility, circulation, and muscle function.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assessment & Client Consultation:

- Assess clients' muscle condition, posture, and areas of tension.
- Identify potential injuries or areas needing rehabilitation.
- Discuss training routines and physical demands to tailor treatments.

2. Massage & Treatment Techniques:

- Perform various massage techniques, including deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy.
- Use stretching techniques (e.g., PNF stretching) to improve mobility and reduce stiffness.
- Use sports taping or cupping therapy if trained in additional modalities.

3. Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation:

- Provide massage therapy to help manage conditions like muscle strains, tendonitis, and ligament sprains.
- Assist in rehabilitating athletes recovering from injuries by improving circulation and reducing scar tissue.
- Offer guidance on stretching, mobility exercises, and self-care techniques.

4. Client Education & Wellness Support:

- Advise clients on maintaining muscle health through hydration, stretching, and strength exercises.
- Provide recommendations for lifestyle and training modifications to prevent recurring injuries.
- Educate clients on proper posture and movement mechanics.

5. Record Keeping & Collaboration:

- Maintain accurate client records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
- Work alongside physiotherapists, chiropractors, personal trainers, and coaches to support athletes' recovery and performance goals.
