Roles Descriptions
- The Engineer shall maintain and keep up-to-date all database documentation, including the database definition, data dictionary, database & data item naming conventions, entity relationship diagrams, and database users access rights and ownership.
- The Engineer shall plan and document all strategies for ensuring production database availability. This includes developing and implementing database backup and recovery jobs, policies, procedures and schedules.
- The Engineer shall be responsible for the day to day database administration, management, operations and deployments of all databases in the System.

Job Descriptions
The activities to be performed shall include the following:

- improve and enforce database standards and procedures to achieve optimum database performance;
- monitor database space utilisation and predict growth;
- review all daily logs, database alerts, database export logs, scheduled job logs;
- investigate and report any exceptions or abnormal events and the preventive actions implemented;
- monitor database health and performance;
- tune database to maintain database in healthy state;
- perform weekly diagnosis on the databases to ensure data integrity and proper functioning of the databases;
- perform database re-organisation at least once a year;
- perform database backups at frequency and within the timeframe as specified;
- perform database recovery within the timeframe as defined; and
- perform annual database recovery test on selected databases as determined.
- The Engineer shall not execute any database configuration designs, plans, maintenance schedules or upgrades unless they are approved.
- The Engineer shall customise short scripts or programs that are required for carrying out more effective and efficient database management activities. The Engineer shall document all these customised scripts and programs in accordance with the defined set of documentation standards.
- The Engineer shall be responsible for the management (including development, maintenance and improvement) of all customised scripts, programs and tools to automate and enhance the efficiency of the database administration and operations.
- The Engineer shall develop, review, test, implement and monitor database backup and recovery jobs, procedures and schedules.
- The Engineer shall plan and schedule regular database housekeeping and maintenance activities necessary to keep the database in a healthy state and at optimum performance.
- keep track of the availability of all database updates and patch releases by the database vendors;
- analyse, assess impact and recommend the relevant patches available; and
- perform the installation and testing of all necessary patches to ensure compatibility with System.

The Engineer shall perform quarter yearly reviews on:

- privileges and profiles assigned to users;
- privileges assigned to roles against Access Control Matrix;
- profile settings; and
- database security control settings.
- The Engineer may propose suitable mechanisms and procedures to facilitate more efficient database administration and management for consideration and approval. The Engineer shall ensure that the proposal complies with the standards adopted.
- The Engineer shall be responsible for database deployment tasks, including the following:

- database objects deployment (e.g. creation/ modification /deletion of database object);
- scripts deployment;
- scripts execution; and
- The Engineer shall adhere to the current mechanisms, controls and procedures to carry out the necessary database deployment tasks.
- The Engineer may propose suitable mechanisms and procedures to facilitate more efficient and effective database deployment for consideration and approval. The Engineer shall ensure that the proposal complies with the standards adopted.
- The Engineer shall ensure that the administration and management of database functions do not compromise the security of any of the databases.
- The Engineer shall review database audit trails daily and investigate (if necessary) and report any access violations, exceptional, unauthorised or suspicious activities and potential problems.
- The Engineer shall ensure that all database related documentation on the set-up, environment, configuration, and patch levels are kept up-to-date.
- The Engineer shall also update and maintain all documentation on procedures related to the database administration, maintenance deployment functions.
- The Engineer shall be responsible for the administration and maintenance of database accounts for all databases.
- The tasks include maintenance and deletion of database accounts and privileges, resetting of passwords.
- The Engineer shall conduct half-year user reviews and verify the validity of each account.
- The Engineer shall adhere to the existing mechanisms, standards, controls and procedures to carry out the necessary database account management tasks.
