Trading is a dynamic and exciting business. The factors that move price can range from basic supply vs demand economics to geopolitical and global political factors. A successful trader has a naturally inquisitive nature and strong commercial acumen. Events that move prices can happen at any time, as such, trading can be a 24/7 business that may require unusual working hours. A willingness to work hard when required under, at times, very stressful conditions is therefore essential.

The Jr Trader will support the development of new trading initiatives, and enhancement of profitability of existing trading activities. They will maintain strong market knowledge of global oil commodity markets and use it to lead significant Trading and Shipping development projects. They will also contribute strongly to the development of the overall Ampol trading strategy for Gasoil, Jet/ Kero and associated oil commodity derivatives so that Ampol can fulfill its role to supply the Ampol Australia enterprise reliably and economically for Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines markets, and also to expand its trading activities.

**Critical Accountabilities & Outcomes
- Development of Supply projects that enhance Supply interactions with all Ampol business teams

The Jr Trader will engage on behalf of the front office with key support functions (eg Treasury/Mid Office, Tax, Finance, VCO, OE/Product Stewardship) to identify and resolve issues impacting wider company functions, as and develop improvements that will provide value to Ampol through efficiencies, improved company visibility, new products, and enhanced optionality. If approved for implementation the Commercial Advisor will lead the development and implementation of any changes.
- Identification of improvements in Supply business functions

The Jr Trader will lead efforts with Trading and Shipping to develop an Entrepreneur trading portfolio, and also other key functions in the wider Ampol business (eg Optimal Supply to Australia & New Zealand systems as well Integration of New Zealand and Australia Supplies), to identify new improvements in business functions that will provide value to Ampol through efficiencies, improved company visibility, and enhanced optionality.
- Development of the Ampol risk profile functions

The Jr Trader will understand the key risk profile functions of the Ampol business and develop opportunities to further enhance the capabilities to enable Ampol to place itself in the risk profile as per the Ampol risk frameworks. If any improvements are identified and approved for implementation the Jr Trader will lead the development and implementation of any changes, including the development of business cases, systems, tools, procedures, and other activities required to implement the changes.
- Develop Ampol and Ampol understanding of markets, exposure, and P&L in the short and medium term

The Jr Trader will use skills and experience to identify, investigate and develop an understanding of tools within Ampol (focus on Trading and Shipping) and the wider Ampol Group of the international trading markets including exposure, supplier contracts, capability and relationships, Trading mark to market for physical and derivatives, Trading P&L including reconciliation with Finance reporting and trading policies. Contribute to the daily and medium-term decision-making about trade strategy, including trading recommendations, risk assessments of new positions, freight analysis, cargo analysis, etc
- Engaging with external parties to develop new opportunities in Supply

A key component of the role is to benchmark Ampol Trading and Shipping functions against industry best practices and competitor performance in markets where Ampol actively trades (both purchase and sale markets). To facilitate this, the Jr Trader will need to ensure the development of excellent relationships with external parties and also leverage their industry experience to support these relationships. The Jr Trader will also develop tracking mechanisms to assist management in determining Ampol’s capabilities and shortfalls in the Supply space
- Lead and Develop Commercial Analyst in their role

Where relevant (i.e. where Jr Trader has direct reports), coach, direct and support Commercial Analyst to fulfill their role in supporting Trading and Shipping activities.
- Work with other Trading desks

Jr Trader must be able to support and share information with, the other trading desks to improve the performance of the overall Ampol business. Assist physical traders where applicable to make the best use of Derivatives in their respective activities
