Extrusion Laboratory Technician

**Role Description**:
In this role, reporting directly to the Head of FTIC, the primary responsibilities include operating and maintaining specialized equipment such as extrusion and meat-processing machines. Tasks involve setting up machines, performing routine inspections and maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The role requires conducting experiments according to established protocols, handling materials, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. It also includes managing inventory, assisting in quality control, maintaining data records, and ensuring lab cleanliness. Adherence to safety protocols and effective communication with the Head of FTIC are essential aspects of this position.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Precisely set up, operate, and maintain extrusion machines, high-pressure processing, and meat-processing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
- Conduct thorough routine inspections and perform necessary cleaning and maintenance on equipment to guarantee consistent reliability and functionality.
- Efficiently troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to minimize operational downtime. Lead or collaborate with vendor’s engineers as necessary for complex problems.
- Follow established protocols and procedures meticulously to conduct experiments, ensuring reliable and valid results.
- Accurately prepare and mix materials for experiments, ensuring precise measurements and adherence to formula specifications.
- Maintain constant awareness of, and compliance with, industry-specific regulations and standards, including environmental and safety guidelines.
- Carefully handle raw materials and extruded products, including efficient loading and unloading, to maintain product integrity.
- Keep accurate and detailed inventory records of materials used in experiments, ensuring inventory levels are maintained and accounted for.
- Actively assist in material testing and implementing quality control procedures to ensure product standards are met or exceeded.
- Diligently maintain various data logs, such as temperature and humidity, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records for analysis and process optimization.
- Perform various ad-hoc lab duties, including maintaining general lab cleanliness and housekeeping, to ensure an organized and efficient working environment.
- Strictly adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Promptly report any safety hazards or incidents to prevent accidents.

**Capabilities**:

- Competence in working with diverse types of equipment, including extrusion machines, meat-processing, and high-pressure processing units.
- Ability to quickly identify and resolve mechanical and electrical problems as they arise in various types of equipment.
- Basic knowledge of the principles and operations specific to extrusion, meat-processing, and high-pressure processing technologies.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory safety protocols and practices to ensure a safe working environment.
- Strong skills in effective communication and collaboration, essential for working well in a team environment.
- Capability to work independently, effectively managing and prioritizing multiple tasks simultaneously.

**Education Background**:

- While not mandatory, a Diploma in Food Science & Technology or a related field is highly beneficial.
- Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; this role is suitable for individuals beginning their professional journey in the field.
