Scope of Work:
- The Early Years Educator plays a vital role in supporting the holistic development and well-being of young children by creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. The educator fosters respectful, responsive, and reciprocal relationships with children and works collaboratively with families, colleagues, and community partners. The role involves assisting in the implementation of a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum and supporting centre initiatives. The Early Years Educator is also committed to continuous professional learning and reflective practice in alignment with early childhood care and education best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Apply contemporary theories and knowledge to support each child's holistic growth, well-being, and learning.
- Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate teaching and caregiving practices aligned with national curriculum frameworks.
- Conduct regular observations and document children's development and learning using appropriate tools.
- Share developmental insights with families and involve them in planning for their child's individual learning journey.
- Continuously review and enhance the learning environment to promote engagement and exploration.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging physical environment in line with health and safety regulations.
- Respond to children's emotional and physical needs promptly and consistently to support secure attachments.
- Ensure consistent adherence to hygiene, health, and safety protocols, including cleanliness of the environment and proper handling of food, milk, and diapers (where applicable).
- Oversee and support care routines such as feeding, toileting, and napping, ensuring individual needs are met with sensitivity and attention.
- Identify and report any signs of emotional distress, abuse, or neglect in accordance with Centre procedures.
- Build and maintain positive, respectful partnerships with parents and caregivers.
- Provide regular updates on children's well-being, development, and progress through daily communication logs or meetings.
- Facilitate continuity of care between home and Centre through consistent collaboration with families.
- Collaborate with colleagues to foster a collegial work culture and uphold high professional standards.
- Participate in team planning activities and contribute to Centre goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Supervise and guide Educarers in implementing age appropriate care routines and supporting children's development.
- Induct and mentor new Educarers in daily routines, Centre protocols, and best practices in caregiving.
- Act as a liaison between Educarers and the Centre Leader for matters such as bay operations, supplies, or staff concerns.
- Step in to provide care or teaching support during staff absences or busy periods as needed.
- Monitor bay or classroom inventory (e.g., teaching materials, diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies), and report shortages to the Centre Administrator.
- Coordinate daily cleaning schedules and ensure compliance with ECDA regulations and SPARK standards.
- Support the Centre in achieving and maintaining SPARK accreditation and ECDA licensing requirements.
- Engage with community stakeholders to support children and families through external partnerships.
- Carry out other ad-hoc duties or projects as assigned by the Centre Leader.
Job Requirements:
- WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years (ACEY) or equivalent qualification recognized by ECDA.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with infants and toddlers.
- Sound knowledge of early childhood education theories, practices, and frameworks.
- Passion for working with and nurturing young children.
- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiar with ECDA regulations, licensing standards, and quality assurance frameworks such as SPARK.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with data analysis/reporting tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willing to attend events outside of office hours when required.
- Proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of risk identification and mitigation is a plus.
