The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
This opening is to employ a Research Fellow under Asst Prof Marie Loh Chiew Shia who is competent in the field of molecular epidemiology to contribute to the Asian Skin Microbiome Programme 2.0 (ASMP 2.0). ASMP 2.0 aims to assemble an integrated platform of assets and technologies which will comprehensively interrogate the functional roles of skin microbiome components and uncover novel bi-directional interactions between the host and skin microbiome.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Quality control of genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and metagenomics data
- Large-scale clinical and molecular phenotypes data, including integrative omics studies
- Evaluation and application of appropriate bioinformatics/statistical techniques, as well as developing and implementing novel approaches to answer research questions
- Scripting and automating robust analysis pipelines
- Writing of scientific manuscripts
- Presentation of work-in-progress and results within/outside of research group, using appropriate presentations format
Key Competencies and Requirements:
- PhD degree in bioinformatics or statistical genetics, computational biology, or related field (Candidates with Master's degree may also be considered)
- Experience working with big genomic datasets; a good understanding of omics approaches is essential (including but not limited to omics-wide association studies, QTL studies, colocalization, Mendelian Randomization)
- Proficient in R, Python, Linux/Unix
- Command over commonly used genetics (e.g., PLINK, GCTA, FUMA, variant predictor tools) and metagenomics tools (e.g. kneadata, metaphlan2, HUMAnN)
- Experience working in high performance computing cluster
- Experience in AI/ML, cloud computing, web development are assets

Pioneer, Singapore Nanyang Technological University Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per yearThe Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of "gut-feelings", how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. Using mice as a mammalian model, the lab investigates how diet and microbiome factors modulates host phenotypes (e.g. food reward, anxiety behaviours, etc). Besides supporting curiosity-driven...
