Principal Analyst

[What the role is]

The Energy Capabilities Development Department of the Energy Market Authority advances the Singapore Energy Transition through developing a flexible and responsive energy system, and planning for the future energy workforce to support this.
We are looking for a Principal Analyst/Senior Principal Analyst for the Systems Capabilities Branch, to lead and oversee the strategic planning, development, and execution of battery energy storage systems (BESS) R&D, technical testbeds and pilots, and Centre of Excellence. The role is important to drive the development of BESS capabilities that can make a significant impact to the Singapore Energy Transition. You must be able to combine strategic insights, energy market dynamics, technical expertise and Concept of Operations to lead impactful deployment of BESS in Singapore.
You will:
1. Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for BESS R&D and technical testbeds and pilots to support the Singapore Energy Transition
2. Evaluate the potential of BESS technologies to impact the Singapore Energy Transition. This includes assessing different BESS chemistries, their safety considerations, and their potential for deployment in Singapore
3. Oversee the planning, execution, and management of BESS R&D and technical testbeds and pilots, to ensure that they deliver impactful outcomes
4. Lead the establishment and appointment of a BESS Centre of Excellence, to undertake R&D and technical studies, and serve as a technical support organisation, to support EMA's operations and planning needs
5. Provide guidance to the BESS Centre of Excellence to align its focus, strategy, and operations to support EMA's priorities
6. Work closely with government agencies, industry leaders, and technology providers to translate strategies to practical deployment

We are looking for candidates with:
1. Background or higher level of knowledge in electrical engineering or other relevant fields;
2. Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex technical, economics and operational concepts into actionable insights and practical strategies;
3. Proven track record in leading programmes/projects of a R&D/strategic nature and successfully transitioning from concept to outcomes and deployment;
4. Strong writing and communication skills;
5. The ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to deliver outcomes;
6. Proven experience in energy systems, BESS projects or related fields is a plus
