Primary Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination: Act as the central point of contact for all BIM-related activities on a project, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication between different disciplines, including architects, engineers (structural, MEP), contractors, and clients.

  • BIM Execution Plan (BEP) Implementation: Develop, manage, and enforce the BIM Execution Plan, which outlines the project's BIM goals, standards, protocols, and workflows. Ensure all project team members adhere to these guidelines.

  • Model Management and Integration: Manage the creation and maintenance of the project's central or "federated" model. This involves aggregating individual models from different disciplines into a single, comprehensive model.

  • Clash Detection and Resolution: Proactively run clash detection tests using specialized software (e.g., Navisworks) to identify and resolve conflicts or interferences between building components (e.g., a structural beam clashing with a duct).

  • Quality Control and Assurance: Perform regular audits and quality checks on BIM models to ensure they meet project specifications, industry standards, and are accurate and complete.

  • Data and Information Management: Ensure all digital information and data associated with the models are correct, consistent, and accessible to the relevant stakeholders. This includes managing data exchange and file formats.

Typical Duties and Tasks

  • BIM Meetings: Lead and facilitate regular BIM coordination meetings with project teams to review models, discuss issues, and track the progress of clash resolution.

  • Software and Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for BIM software and related tools. Assist team members with modeling challenges and ensure everyone is using the correct software versions.

  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training and guidance to junior staff and other team members on BIM processes, standards, and software usage.

  • Model Maintenance: Keep BIM models up-to-date throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating design changes, updates, and as-built information.

  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including clash reports, meeting minutes, and model audit records.

  • Workflow Optimization: Identify and implement new workflows or technologies to improve efficiency and collaboration on the project.

  • Deliverables: Ensure BIM deliverables, such as drawings, schedules, and data exports, are completed on time and meet the required specifications.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong knowledge of BIM software platforms (e.g., Revit, ArchiCAD, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures).

  • Expertise in BIM coordination and clash detection software (e.g., Navisworks Manage, BIM 360, Solibri).

  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols

  • Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with diverse teams.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and workflows.

  • The ability to be proactive, flexible, and adapt to project changes.

  • Education and Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in a BIM-related role, often starting as a BIM Modeler or Technician.
