CartiFuse is a Singapore-based A*STAR spin-off medtech startup company . We are pioneering 3D-printed bioactive cartilage implants that restore joint function through tissue regeneration. Our proprietary bioactive copolymer platform integrates tailored chemistry, additive manufacturing, and translational biology to deliver next-generation cartilage repair. You will join a small, multidisciplinary team of polymer chemists, biomedical engineers, and clinicians dedicated to bringing bench materials into the clinic.

Your Role

As our Senior Biomaterials Scientist / Lead Polymer Chemist , you will:

  • Design and synthesize bioactive monomers, macromonomers, and copolymers for tissue regeneration.
  • Develop and optimize controlled polymerizations and biofunctional modifications of polymers .
  • Formulate and characterize 3D-printable polymers for FDM-based manufacturing.
  • Conduct polymer and materials characterization (GPC/SEC, NMR, DSC/TGA, FT-IR, mechanical testing).
  • Collaborate with biologists for in-vitro biocompatibility and bioactivity testing.
  • Support process scale-up , quality documentation, and tech transfer toward pre-clinical validation.
  • Contribute to IP generation (patents, publications) and mentor junior researchers.
Requirements
  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Biomaterials, Chemical Engineering , or related field (or MSc + 5 years' industrial/research experience).
    • 5 years' proven hands-on experience in polymer synthesis, modification, and characterization for biomedical or biomaterial applications.
  • Experience with 3D-printing polymer formulations .
  • Skilled in controlled polymerizations (ATRP, RAFT, ROMP, etc), polymer-biomolecule conjugations, and organic-inorganic composite polymers .
  • Proficient in material analytics (GPC/SEC, NMR, DSC/TGA, rheology, mechanical testing).
  • Strong data analysis, documentation, and presentation skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with biodegradable polymers (PLGA, PCL, PLA, or copolymer systems).
  • Familiarity with the development of ISO 13485, GMP/GLP, or medical device .
  • Prior publications or patents in biomaterials / polymer chemistry .
