About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior Legal & Claims Officer to join our team. This role is ideal for an early-career professional with initial experience in legal, claims handling, and compliance within the maritime or shipping industry. You will play an important role in supporting claims management, providing legal support, conducting sanctions screening, and helping to ensure compliance and risk mitigating risk across the organization.

Job Requirement

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management: Handle and settle claims, assess liability, apply legal defenses, liaise with P&I Clubs, maintain claims database, monitor costs, and recover outstanding amounts.

Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts; provide legal advice and coordinate external counsel when needed.

Legal Advisory: Provide legal guidance across departments, ensure compliance, manage external counsel, and update company policies and procedures.

Insurance: Assist with vessel insurance placement and AP quotes for high-risk areas.

Compliance and Sanctions: Conduct client due diligence, sanctions screening, maintain records, and monitor regulatory changes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Law Degree, Marine Studies, or related field;

0-2 years' experience in legal, claims, or compliance roles within shipping or marine insurance is considered a bonus but not essential

Knowledge of international sanctions regimes preferred but not essential

Excellent communication in English (written and spoken), negotiation, and analytical skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
