Job Summary
The Cake Decorator is responsible for finishing, decorating, and presenting cakes to meet design specifications and FNP Cakes' standard of quality. The role focuses on the creative and technical aspects of cake decoration (cream, fondant, toppers, etc.), rather than baking from scratch. The decorator will work with production teams to fulfil orders efficiently, maintain hygiene standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in design and process.
Key Responsibilities
- Frost and decorate cakes with cream, buttercream, ganache, fondant, etc., ensuring smooth finish and clean edges.
- Create customized fondant decorations, toppers, sugar work, figurines etc., as per customer or design briefs.
- Interpret design requests/orders, possibly sketch mockups, select colours and decorative elements to match customer specifications.
- Work to meet daily production / decoration targets, ensuring orders are completed on schedule.
- Ensure all cakes are properly packed, presented neatly, and comply with company standard for aesthetics.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and hygiene in workstation; sanitize tools and equipment; follow food safety practices (ISO 22000 / HACCP / Halal, if applicable).
- Assist with inventory of decorating supplies (fondant, toppers, colours, tools) and report low stocks or defects.
- Keep up to date with design trends, techniques, and tools for cake decoration.
Requirements / Qualifications
- At least 2-5 years of experience in cake decorating, especially working with cream and/or fondant.
- Strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail (colour, symmetry, neatness).
- Ability to work independently, follow design briefs, and under supervision when required.
- Good communication skills; ability to interpret client orders & feedback.
- Ability to manage deadlines; work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Knowledge of safety & hygiene standards in F&B / bakery; compliance with food handling regulations.
