Job Title: Engineer, Software (Test & Development)

Position Overview

The Software Engineer – Test Automation & Development plays a key role in enabling automated characterization and validation of advanced optoelectronic and photonic devices. This position focuses on building high-performance test automation software, instrument control systems, data acquisition pipelines, and hardware–software integration frameworks that support both R&D and high-volume production. The ideal candidate combines strong software development skills with hands-on understanding of instrumentation, firmware, and data systems to deliver reliable, scalable, and efficient automated test solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software tools and automation frameworks for testing optoelectronic and photonic devices from R&D to mass production.
  • Implement automated test scripts using SCPI commands and develop test control software in Python, C/C++, or C#/VB.NET.
  • Build and manage data acquisition pipelines, including database design, data storage, processing, retrieval, and visualization.
  • Collaborate with hardware, optical, and process engineers to create automated test stations with strong software–hardware integration.
  • Develop and maintain FPGA logic and MCU firmware (e.g., ARM/STM32) for equipment control, synchronization, and signal processing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software, instrumentation, and integration issues to ensure accuracy, stability, and repeatability.
  • Create GUIs, dashboards, and documentation while driving continuous improvements in automation performance, data handling, and system reliability.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer, Electrical/Electronic, or Software Engineering with strong programming skills (Python, C/C++, C#/VB.NET) and SCPI-based instrument control experience.
  • Experience with SQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL databases, version control (Git), cloud platforms, and FPGA/MCU development (VHDL/Verilog, STM32).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, good communication skills, and interest in photonics, with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional R&D environments.
