Science Writer

Job Description:

The candidate will boost the Faculty of Science's presence by developing impactful long- and short-form content for different audiences. The candidate will possess excellent writing skills and competencies to make technical content accessible to laymen.

Content creation

• Proactive in collecting and verifying newsworthy information.

• Conduct research on assigned topics for story development.

• Develop original and quality content according to briefs.

• Competent in translating complex technical / scientific content into copy that resonates with laymen.

• Merge complex information from different sources into a single, coherent story.

• Familiar with SEO optimisation to incorporate key terms for site traffic.

• Maintain consistency in content and ensure alignment with editorial requirements.

• Develop and manage high quality image bank (photographs and videos).

• Adept in different short- and long-form writing styles for different mediums (web, print and socials), including, but not limited to corporate publications, marketing assets, corporate/news messaging, blogs, video scripts, Q&A documents, social-media style content, etc.

• Ensure that all content is timely, accurate and relevant to the different needs of external and internal stakeholders.

• Advanced editing and proofreading for accurate and factual content and correct language.

Stakeholder relations

• Build relationships with content sources / stakeholders for sustained pipeline of stories.

• Research and interview content sources to incorporate their views into communication assets.

Events Organisation

• Support team on coordination and logistics for events execution.

Other ad-hoc projects and duties, as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info

• Relevant degree qualifications.

• Interest in science communications.

• Must be able to meet strict deadlines, manage multiple projects concurrently and work well under pressure.

• Excellent writing skills with proven work experience, backed with a good portfolio of published articles.

• Competent in long- and short-form content.

• Organised with attention to detail.

• Hands-on experience with content management systems (e.g., wordpress), photo and video editing software is a definite advantage.

• Solid project management skills.
