Responsibilities
· Vessel Maintenance, Drydock & Major Repairs
Plan, supervise, and execute all activities related to vessel maintenance, repair, drydocking, surveys, and certifications, including conversions or modifications, ensuring compliance with class and flag requirements.
· Planned Maintenance & Condition Monitoring
Identify abnormalities or defects and proactively report to management, conduct performance risks assessment, implement immediate corrective actions to resume ship operation, and propose long term corrective actions in collaboration with the fleet team or external experts. Develop and implement vessel planned maintenance plan plans with the vessel's SMC team. Monitor condition reports and ensure vessels are maintained in line with Owner's policies.
· Budgeting & Cost Control
Coordinate with the Management Team to prepare annual operating budgets. Monitor expenditure closely and enforce strict cost control across all technical operations.
· Vessel Performance & Commercial Awareness
Track vessel performance, including speed, fuel, and lube oil consumption. Identify deviations from agreed parameters and implement corrective actions to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
· Vessel Inspections & Reporting
Conduct regular vessel visits to assess technical condition, crew performance, safety, and environmental compliance. Provide timely inspection reports and recommend corrective measures.
· Reporting
Prepare and deliver reports on vessel condition, expenditure, and operational performance, in line with Management Agreement obligations.
· Procurement & Stores Management
Approve orders for stores, spares, and repairs within delegated authority. Ensure vessels are adequately stocked for safe, compliant, and efficient operation while adhering to purchasing policies.
· Quality, Safety & Risk Management
Work closely with QHSE Superintendent to close out deficiencies, damages, and non-conformities within agreed timelines. Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and emergency response planning.
· Insurance & Claims
Prepare and submit insurance claims, liaising with Owners, insurers, and underwriters to ensure timely processing and supporting documentation.
· Budget Control
Prepare quarterly variance reports and annual operating budgets for review.
· Crew Management & Training
Interview, brief, and appraise Senior Officers on vessel condition, maintenance plans, and operational requirements. Identify training needs for officers and crew to enhance technical competence.
· Ad Hoc Projects
Undertake special assignments and projects as directed by Management to support fleet performance and strategic objectives.
Requirements
· Degree in Engineering, or COC Chief Engineer
· Sea-going experience as Chief Engineer, plus 3–5 years in a shore-based technical superintendent role (liner shipping preferred)
· Strong knowledge of vessel machinery, ISM/ISPS, class and flag requirements
· Proven experience in drydock planning, budgeting, and cost control
· Effective communicator with strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
