Background

The newly founded Bavarian University and Innovation Center Asia-Pacific (BayAP) is the point of contact for all universities in the Free State of Bavaria for networking, exploring and promoting cooperation with the highly dynamic Asia-Pacific region; special focus is on Singapore as a high-tech location. In this capacity, the BayAP supports and promotes the exchange of lecturers and (in the future) student exchange between Bavaria and the Asia-Pacific region and also promotes scientific cooperation between Bavarian universities in research and teaching with partners in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, the BayAP is responsible for supporting and promoting innovation and technology transfer with partners in the region.

Funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts (StMWK), the BayAP is located as a central institution at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). TUM is one of the first three universities of excellence in Germany and has had a campus in Singapore for more than 20 years with its subsidiary GIST - TUM Asia.

In your role as Academic Partnerships Manager of BayAP, which is based at the TUM Asia in Singapore, you will be directly reporting to the Managing Director of BayAP based in Munich and you will be responsible for supporting BayAP as a Bavaria-wide platform for Bavarian universities that want to network more closely with the Asia-Pacific region and take advantage of BayAP's advisory, networks and funding services.

In particular, you are responsible for:

  • Develop and implement annual and multi-year action plans aligned with BayAP's mission in consultation with the Managing Director.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration between Bavarian universities and Asia-Pacific institutions.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships and serve as the key liaison between Bavarian universities, government agencies, and industry partners in the Asia-Pacific.
  • To design and manage processes for lecturer and student exchange programs and to coordinate with university international offices to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Handle logistics, agreements, and funding for mobility programs.
  • Identify and facilitate joint research and teaching opportunities.
  • Support applications for collaborative grants or funding programs.
  • Connect Bavarian research institutions with innovation ecosystems in Asia-Pacific.
  • Coordinate tech transfer initiatives, such as startup collaborations, joint labs, or patent/licensing discussions.

  • Organize international conferences, delegation visits, networking events and seminars and to represent BayAP at fairs, academic summits and events.

  • Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for all projects.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Arts and the involved universities.
  • Oversee website content, newsletters, and social media presence (if applicable).
  • Any other projects assigned by the Managing Director of BayAP.

Requirements:

  • Academic university degree completed with above-average success.
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in project management and industry relationship management, preferably in a university context and/or in dealing with public stakeholders (ministries, other public institutions).
  • Strategic competence and strong in implementation and execution work.
  • Responsible, meticulous and capable of working independently to resolve issues and challenges.
  • Proactive, ability to work in a team (also in virtual environments), resilience as well as a confident and representative appearance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive working attitude.
  • Strong time management and work well under pressure.
  • Adept at building rapport and working with public stakeholder and internal teams across levels to co-create solutions and sustain engagement
  • Operational readiness in individual cases even outside normal working hours and assumption of business trips to Asia-Pacific countries and Germany.
  • Excellent project management, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and across diverse, multi-disciplinary, and multicultural teams.
  • Ability to build relationships at institutional, academic, and governmental levels.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); able to communicate professionally and persuasively with academic, governmental, and business partners across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Fluent in German is considered a bonus, particularly for engagement with Bavarian institutions and government stakeholders.
