Job Description

The Chargeback Risk Analyst is responsible for managing dispute cases, identifying fraud and operational risks, and ensuring compliance with card network and data-security standards. The role involves analysing transactions, preparing evidence for disputes, working with internal teams and external partners, and supporting strategies that reduce chargebacks and improve overall risk posture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full chargeback lifecycle, including receiving dispute notifications, investigating claims, gathering  evidence, and submitting representments.
  • Liaise with issuing banks, payment processors, and merchants to resolve disputes promptly and accurately.
  • Analyse transaction and dispute data to identify trends, root causes, and emerging risk indicators.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce chargeback ratios and prevent recurring disputes.
  • Ensure adherence to Visa, Mastercard, and American Express rules, as well as internal risk and compliance policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PCI DSS requirements and support related compliance initiatives.
  • Document all chargeback investigations, decisions, and financial impacts.
  • Prepare regular reports on win/loss ratios, chargeback trends, and overall risk exposure.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Finance, Compliance, and IT teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Provide training and guidance on chargeback prevention and best practices.
  • Use fraud-detection tools and analytical methods to identify high-risk or suspicious transactions.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in chargebacks, fraud prevention, risk management, payment operationsor related roles.
  • Strong understanding of payment workflows, card-scheme rules, and PCI DSS standards.
  • Proficiency in data analysis; Excel or SQL skills are an advantage.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with chargeback management systems and payment platforms.
  • Ability to identify vulnerabilities in payment processes that may lead to fraud or data breaches.
  • Ensures secure handling of cardholder data and supports stronger evidence in dispute representments.
  • Works with Compliance and IT Security teams to align chargeback-prevention efforts with overall data-security standards.
  • Keeps up to date on PCI DSS and card-network requirements to help the company avoid non-compliance risks.
