About the Company

The Courage Chapter is seeking a Direct Care Worker for our client, a non-profit organization that provides holistic care and support to youth at risk. The organization is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment, empowering residents to overcome challenges and build a better future.

Job Summary

The Direct Care Worker is responsible for providing trauma-informed care, supervision, and management to residents in a structured care environment. This role primarily focuses on ensuring the well-being, safety, and development of residents during the shift while maintaining a nurturing yet disciplined environment.

The organization is open to a 3-day trial period to assess the candidate's suitability for the role.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care, Supervision, and Management

  • Provide care and supervision to residents based on their individual care plans.
  • Offer health and medical assistance when required.
  • Manage resident behavior using an approved reward and discipline system.
  • De-escalate and diffuse tension during moments of dysregulation.
  • Assist residents in preparing for bedtime and waking up for school.

Shift Management

  • Conduct regular bed checks and half-hourly rounds to ensure safety.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly care environment.
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations and unusual events.
  • Prepare breakfast and ensure residents have their meals.
  • Dispense residents' daily allowance and manage petty cash for pocket money.

Documentation

  • Record resident behaviour and progress in the online Residential Record.
  • Maintain updated residential records and logbooks.
  • Sync online records from eDataLogger tablets to OneDrive.
  • Prepare incident reports as needed.
  • Perform detailed handovers during shift changes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support other departments in tasks such as education, logistics, cleaning, maintenance, and transportation, as required.
  • Participate in special projects, programs, and committees.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors or managers.

Job Requirements

Pre-Requisites

  • Knowledge of trauma and abuse-related issues and disorders.
  • Comfortable working with children and teenage girls.
  • Willingness to work night shifts.
  • Proficient in English, with strong communication skills.

Certifications

  • Training in Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is an advantage.
  • Certification in CPI Safety Intervention (Foundation and Advanced).
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
