The role

We seeking to appoint a full-time experienced Educational Psychologist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neurodiversity and work closely with Learning Support, Pastoral and Coordinated Wellbeing Services teams to provide consultation, offer advice and support for parents and teachers of children with SEND. He/she will promote and encourage an inclusive ethos throughout the school by raising awareness, facilitating training and working collaboratively with staff.

The role reports to the Director of Pastoral Care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and encourage an inclusive ethos throughout the school by raising awareness, facilitating training and working collaboratively with staff.
  • Help build and develop the capacity of the school to effectively meet the needs of children who are experiencing difficulties / challenges in aspects of their education.
  • Chair the Heads of Learning Support and Educational Psychologist meetings to review school wide issues and implement appropriate actions.
  • Work with the Heads of Learning Support to review and update the Learning Support Policy annually, including reviewing systems and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with Learning Support, Pastoral and CWS teams to provide consultation, offering advice and support for parents and teachers of children with SEND.
  • Attend the Pastoral Concerns Meeting in each school and offer consultation and advice to support the development and wellbeing of children discussed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Learning Support (LS), Pastoral and CWS teams to evaluate children's needs under all areas in the SEND code of practice through consultation of assessment using questionnaires, observations, dynamic or standardised assessments as appropriate.
  • Where assessments have been carried out, provide written and verbal feedback about the results, the child's profile and recommendations for next steps to parents, teachers, Learning Support, Pastoral and CWS teams as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, Learning Support, Pastoral, CWS teams and parents to plan and/or provide (where appropriate) intervention to meet the individual needs of children.
  • Make recommendations for specialist intervention and referrals to outside agencies where appropriate.
  • Liaise with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other relevant professionals who come on site to support children.
  • Provide support to Learning Support, Pastoral and CWS teams in monitoring and reviewing children's progress within an intervention plan, suggesting possible amendments to the plan and making further recommendations.
  • Chair (where appropriate) and attend Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings for children with high level needs.
  • Conduct professional in-service training for staff and Specialist Teaching & Learning Assistants and Teaching & Learning Assistants as appropriate.
  • Deliver talks, presentations and workshops for parents on matters related to children's learning, development and wellbeing, and contributing to the CWS strategy for the academic year.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with external Educational Psychologists and outside agencies in Singapore and, where appropriate, overseas.
  • Establish and maintain information on schools that welcome and cater for children with specific learning difficulties and special educational needs.
  • Keep up to date with research and developments in the field of Special Education and informing Learning Support, Pastoral, CWS and Leadership Teams as appropriate.
  • Advise on educational information, resources and materials for use by staff and/or students.
  • Attend all appropriate meetings related to matters concerning SEND.
  • Advise in the review and development of a school policies concerned with SEND or behaviour.
  • Liaise with Head of Learning Support (Senior) to carry out and review assessments of children's eligibility for access arrangements in external examinations as appropriate including completing the appropriate paperwork required by examination boards in terms of access arrangements.
  • Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and keeping accurate records on CPOMS.
  • Provide check-in and signposting to the School's Employee Assistance Programme for vulnerable staff seeking support.
  • Contribute to the Staff Wellbeing committee.
  • Support in the development and delivery of Lifeskills lessons as appropriate.
