Job Description

Job Summary:

The Bioprocess Development Technician will play a crucial role in supporting bioprocess development activities, focusing on media preparation, fermenter maintenance, process monitoring, sample preparation, and analytical instrument operation. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of aseptic techniques and laboratory procedures. The technician will work collaboratively with the team to ensure efficient and accurate execution of experiments and contribute to the overall success of bioprocess development projects.

Responsibilities:

Media and Buffer Preparation:

  • Prepare and formulate media and buffer solutions according to established protocols.
  • Ensure sterility of media through proper autoclaving procedures.

Fermenter Operation and Maintenance:

  • Perform Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) procedures for fermenters.
  • Prepare and set up fermenters for experimental runs, ensuring readiness for use.
  • Calibrate and maintain pH and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) probes.
  • Autoclave fermenters and related equipment as required.

Fermentation Process Monitoring and Control:

  • Monitor and control fermentation processes according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Collect and record data accurately and consistently.

Sample Preparation and Analysis:

  • Prepare fermentation samples for downstream analysis.
  • Operate and maintain Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems for sample analysis.

Laboratory Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

  • Operate and maintain various laboratory equipment, including pH meters, spectrophotometers, analytical balances, centrifuges, microscopes, biosafety cabinets (BSCs), autoclaves, and hot air ovens, according to SOPs.

Data Management and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records of experimental data.
  • Document all procedures and results in accordance with good documentation practices.

Scientific Research and Literature Review:

  • Conduct online searches and review scientific literature to support experimental design and process development.

Laboratory Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of laboratory safety measures.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve project goals.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Be flexible to work shifts as required.
  • Adapt to evolving bioprocess needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; or Diploma
  • Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and laboratory procedures.
  • Experience with fermenter operation and maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in operating analytical instruments such as GC and HPLC.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work shifts when required.
  • Ability to follow strict safety protocols.
