What the role is

The Judiciary - comprising the Supreme Court, State Courts and Family Justice Courts - is one of the three constitutional pillars of government in Singapore. Known collectively as SG Courts, we are integrated and coordinated to serve as one judiciary. As an organ of state, the Judiciary's function is to independently administer justice. FREELANCE INTERPRETERS

We are looking for candidates who are proficient in English and one or more of the following languages to serve as Freelance Interpreters with the SG Courts.

What you will be working on

To provide freelance interpretation services to the SG Courts from one language to the English Language and vice versa

What we are looking for

Requirements

a. Offered English and native/ acquired language as a curriculum subject and passed both subjects throughout academic life.

b. For those who have not offered English as one of the main curriculum subjects, the following applies:


• Possess a good command of spoken English and this may be assessed or tested by Director (Language Resources) or any officer appointed by the Director through
interviews.


• A minimum score of 72 (score for a good user) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT).


• A minimum level of Band % of minimum score) for the academic module in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

c. Applicants who have acquired language skills through life experience, for example, a bilingual upbringing, residence abroad or regular work with speakers of a
designated language will also be considered.

d. Not previously disqualified from providing interpretation services to the courts.

e. Pre-entry experience is not a must but relevant/related experience in this field will be an advantage.

f. Applicants with experience should provide testimonials from organizations which have benefitted from or procured applicant's interpretation services.

g. Memberships with /Accreditations by recognised Translators/Interpreters entities would stand a candidate in good stead for selection.

h. Familiarity with courtroom decorum and legal terminology will be an advantage.

Note:
Successful candidates will be placed in our panel of Freelance Interpreters and engaged by the Courts, as and when their services are required.
