Job Description

Internship Overview

We are looking for a motivated and tech-savvy intern to join our General Insurance Underwriting team. This role is ideal for someone interested in the future of insurance, combining traditional underwriting exposure with opportunities to work on data analytics, automation tools, and decision-support systems.

You will collaborate with underwriters, data analysts, and digital transformation teams to help shape smarter, faster, and more predictive underwriting processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters in reviewing insurance applications, renewal documents, and supporting materials.
  • Conduct preliminary risk assessments and data entry for policy quotations.
  • Support in preparing underwriting reports and documentation.
  • Perform market and industry research related to automated underwriting, analysing of risk profiles and pricing.
  • Help coordinate with internal departments (claims, actuarial, sales) for automation.
  • Participate in training sessions and shadow underwriters to gain domain knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

  • Solid grounding in the fundamentals of general insurance, including key product types (motor, property, insurance guarantees, etc.) and their underwriting criteria.
  • Understanding of risk assessment principles and how underwriters evaluate exposure, pricing, and policy terms.
  • Familiarity with underwriting workflows, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Insight into the evolving role of technology and AI in improving underwriting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Practical skills in using digital platforms and tools to support underwriting decisions and automate routine tasks.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a diploma or degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in the intersection of insurance and emerging technology (AI, ML, automation).
  • Comfortable with data (e.g., Excel, Power BI, basic SQL or Python a plus).
  • Analytical mindset with a willingness to learn technical tools and concepts.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
