1. Background
This Term of Reference (ToR) outlines the role, responsibilities, and requirements for the position of IT Maintenance Engineer. The IT Maintenance Engineer will focus on maintaining and supporting the IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability, system integrity, and compliance with cybersecurity standards.
2. Objectives
The primary objectives of the IT Maintenance Engineer are:
- To maintain enterprise Linux (SUSE Linux) and Windows server environments.
- To ensure system high availability and fault tolerance.
- To perform regular maintenance, including preventive and corrective tasks.
- To execute cybersecurity patches and participate in tech refresh activities.
- To manage network protocols, routing, switching, and firewall configurations.
- To ensure optimal operation and performance of Nutanix HCI infrastructure, including cluster health monitoring and capacity planning.
- To utilize Splunk for proactive log analysis, monitoring, and alerting to identify and address anomalies before service impact.
3. Scope of Work
The IT Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for:
- Using appropriate tools and following maintenance manuals for task execution.
- Performing scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Conducting root cause analysis for technical issues, including log analysis using Splunk and native system tools.
- Applying system and cybersecurity patches across Linux, Windows, and Nutanix clusters.
- Participating in technology refresh activities, including upgrades to virtualization and storage environments.
- Monitoring Nutanix cluster health and performing corrective actions to maintain optimal performance.
- Configuring and maintaining Splunk dashboards, alerts, and reports to support system observability.
- Managing configuration, asset, and change management processes.
- Collaborating with security teams to analyse logs and events to detect and mitigate threats.
4. Deliverables
The key deliverables expected from the IT Maintenance Engineer include:
- Regular maintenance reports, including preventive and corrective tasks performed.
- Documentation of root cause analyses and resolution of technical issues.
- Records of system and cybersecurity patches applied.
- Reports on participation in tech refresh activities.
