- This position is for Office of Corporate Communications and Marketing (OCCM).
- Support and create all forms of written content including presentation materials for the SMU Chairman and President in their roles as lead spokespersons for SMU across local and international platforms to enhance the brand and reputation of SMU.
- Develop compelling content on various topics and include content that clearly conveys the meaningful impact SMU makes through its education, research and global engagement, with focus on its three strategic priorities to realise the SMU Vision.
- In speech writing and content development, the role will need to capture the personality/voice, vision, and priorities of the SMU Chairman and President on a wide range of topics clearly and crisply.
Other duties include:
Conducting research, developing, writing and editing a wide variety of materials including quotes, video scripts, speeches, talking points, background materials, narratives, opinion-editorial and thought leadership pieces.
Pitching opinion-editorial articles to local and international media, and promoting key parts of President's speeches on SMU social media, including through select podcasts and videocasts.
Be part of the corporate communications team which works on SMU's communication strategies and thought leadership narratives and will report to the Head of Brand & Corporate Communications.
- Any other tasked assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, literature, communications, creative writing, or a similar discipline. A master's degree is preferable.
- Keen interest in current affairs, and geopolitical and socio-economic issues and is also intellectually curious.
- A good understanding of public speaking, aware of language subtleties and always crafts the speeches with the audience in mind.
- Excellent research skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong strategic, analytical thinking skills, with demonstrated excellence in creating and articulating ideas.
- Exceptional writing, editing and oral communications skills, ability to produce compelling content for internal and external audiences to achieve desired results.
- Adept at creating PowerPoint slides that convey compelling visual information to various audiences.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to successfully manage multiple assignments simultaneously and at speed while collaborating with multiple teams across the university.
- Experience in integrated communications, including knowledge of earned, paid, owned and shared media.
- Creative, state of the art communications knowledge who understands emerging technologies, communication best practices, and has a passion for exploring new methods of communicating.
- Ability to remain resilient and work well under pressure as this role must deliver high quality communications under tight deadlines, with excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting.
