The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
We are looking for a Research Assistant/Research Associate to work on collaborative projects involving the development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in clinical practice. The role will focus on supporting the development of survey and interview instruments, administering surveys and interview/focus group discussions, coordinating simulation enactments involving the use of the developed AI tools in primary care and consultation settings, and performing necessary literature review, data analysis and co-writing of manuscripts for reporting findings. Where necessary, the candidate will also support the team in co-designing and refinement of AI models by incorporation of social science perspectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement research projects, including literature review, data collection, and data analyses
Conduct and interpret qualitative and quantitative data analyses
Assist in coordinating and running research projects, including securing ethics approval and support daily operational and administrative duties
Support logistics matters, e.g., set up and operate audiovisual (AV) equipment, video recording and editing, for the conduct of experiments and medical simulation sessions
Coordinate with collaborators and third-party service providers to recruit participants as well as secure facilities, labs, and equipment for research activities
Actively contribute to the preparation of manuscript drafts for peer-reviewed journals and conferences
Support the development of grant proposals
Conduct and organise project meetings
Undertake any additional project duties as required by the supervisor
Competencies and Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (for Research Assistant) or Master's degree (for Research Associate) in social sciences such as: behavioural sciences, public health, communication, human-AI interaction, psychology or related fields
Knowledge and experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods and tools, using relevant analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Dedoose, MPlus)
Demonstrated experience in scientific writing through publications in medicine, public health or social sciences literature. Final year dissertations/theses will also be accepted as writing samples.
Strong administrative, communication and interpersonal skills, e.g. ability to work independently, meticulous and eye for details, excellent organizational and time management skills
At least 1 year of work experience in healthcare or social sciences research or related discipline preferred
Knowledge or experience in clinical / medicine settings and/or human-AI interaction will be advantageous
Knowledge in setting up and operating audio-visual (AV) equipment for medical simulations and experiments, e.g., setting up camera and Zoom meeting, video recording and editing, will be advantageous
Ability to develop strategic and collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
Experience with securing and managing research grants preferred
