Brief Description:

The Microbiologist is a key technical and operational role responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the microbiology section. This individual ensures the accuracy and integrity of analytical data, maintains strict quality control standards, and provides expert support to both internal teams and external clients. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with a strong foundation in environmental microbiology and a commitment to operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

Technical & Operational Management:

  • Perform and oversee a variety of microbiological analyses on environmental samples (e.g., water, soil, air) in accordance with standard methods (e.g., ASTM, SM, ISO).
  • Manage the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and data validity.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Review, verify, and authorize test data and reports, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to meet client Turnaround Time (TAT) and On-Time Delivery (OTD) targets.
  • Maintain impeccable laboratory housekeeping, safety, and organization in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Actively support and participate in quality and environmental management system activities (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, internal audits, proficiency testing).
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of non-conformances and client queries.
  • Ensure all laboratory practices meet health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Team Leadership & Client Relations:

  • Train, mentor, and supervise laboratory technicians and junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries related to microbiological testing, interpreting results, and providing expert advice.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to prepare and submit technical proposals and quotations to customers.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a microbiological testing laboratory, with preference given to candidates with environmental laboratory experience.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of microbiological techniques, methodologies, and instrumentation relevant to environmental testing.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC principles and accreditation standards (e.g., ISO/IEC
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Reporting & Collaboration

  • Reports to: Laboratory Manager or Head of Department (HOD).
  • Key Collaborations: Works closely with laboratory staff, field sampling teams, sales department, quality assurance unit, and external clients / certification bodies.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to work and communicate with people of diverse personalities and backgrounds.
