The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.

CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore. The Centre also has staff at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. With some 200 staff and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies is looking for a Research Assistant to join the research group of Professor Marco Tomamichel. In an ongoing project we are utilizing semiring techniques, particularly the theory of asymptotic spectra, to identify quantum or classical relative entropies (and their multivariate generalizations) and other entropic quantities that are relevant in tasks related to large-sample and catalytic majorization of classical or quantum statistical experiments. We are specifically looking for a candidate who is familiar with the real-algebraic methods described above and can thus actively contribute to this project.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research within the project outlined above, in collaboration with other group members
  • Author peer-reviewed research papers
  • Present research both at conferences and within CQT or the research group
  • Take up teaching duties in the role of teaching assistant for courses at the bachelor or master level

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Master's degree in mathematics, (mathematical) physics or computer science
  • Experience in academic research in a closely related field
  • Strong mathematical background, in particular affinity with real-algebraic techniques utilized in this project
  • Proved capacity of working with co-workers
  • Experience as a teaching assistant for university-level courses
  • Strong communication and writing skills
