Research Scientist

Job Purpose

As a Research Scientist, your role is to develop the processes and delivery of reaction flavours and bioactive ingredients. You will be working in close collaboration with cross-functional and cross-regional teams in both reactive and research projects to develop and implement differentiating solutions according to company's objectives and corporate strategy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support reactive projects by working collaboratively across functions and regions to meet customers' needs and help business successfully win briefs.
  • Independently lead complex research and development projects. Establish project objectives, scope, and success criteria.
  • Provide recommendations to project teams based on experimental findings. Document findings with detailed research reports for all projects.
  • Provide input and guidance on laboratory procedures and techniques to team members.
  • Identify technical gaps, develop and execute research to provide solutions.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Design and implement new equipment and systems for production processes.
  • Responsible for pilot plant maintenance and support routine laboratory maintenance.
  • Contribute to competitor understanding within the area of expertise.
  • Foster diverse internal relationships with technical teams, scientists, sales, marketing, legal, regulatory, and intellectual property teams.
  • Supervise Interns, Technologists, or Associates.
  • Develop a network of external collaborators within the area of expertise.
  • Participate in the identification of potential opportunities for collaborative innovation within the business and foundational project portfolio.

Qualifications

  • University degree with 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 2 years of experience in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. Experience in the flavour industry would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of process engineering for designing and implementing new equipment and systems for reaction flavour and related processes.
  • Comfortable in operating pilot plant equipment.
  • Experience in managing project teams both on-site and remotely.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment within a matrix organization.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to implement innovative and unconventional approaches to technical solutions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Good team player.
