The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (S-P-M-S) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, S-P-M-S has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Position Available: Research Fellow, Plasma physics for Fusion Energy

The project aims to assess impurity transport under different plasma turbulence regimes, as well as the effects of plasma shaping. The Research Fellow will be employed and based at NTU, and is expected to travel overseas to collaborate with scientific teams at CEA, France.

Key responsibilities

The holder will:

  • Use AI techniques to uncover patterns and predict plasma turbulence behavior
  • Develop surrogate models to accelerate and extend turbulence simulations
  • Apply PINNs to solve turbulence equations while enforcing physical constraints

Job requirements

  • PhD degree in physics
  • Demonstrated experience in computer sciences
  • Demonstrated experience in handling large size database
  • Knowledgeable in theoretical physics, and at minima basic knowledge in theoretical plasma physics
  • Demonstrated track-record of scientific productivity
  • Experience of scientific work in an international environment.
