Location: Singapore / Regional
About Mewah Group
We are a publicly listed company on the mainboard of the Singapore Exchange, with a revenue base exceeding US$4 billion and operations across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, China, India, Africa, and Europe. With over seventy years of experience in food and agribusiness, our brands such as OKI and MOI are household names.
As part of our continued growth and diversification into renewable fuels, we are expanding our Energy Desk to strengthen our paper trading and risk management capabilities in biodiesel. We are seeking a skilled Paper Trader to support our physical biodiesel operations, refinery margin hedging, and feedstock exposure management.
Role Overview
The Paper Trader will manage and optimize the company's exposure to biodiesel, feedstocks, and related energy markets. This role involves executing derivatives trades, developing hedging strategies, and providing market insights that directly support refinery operations and physical trading activities.
Key Responsibilities
Derivatives Trading & Hedging: Execute daily trading and hedging strategies across energy and feedstock derivatives (e.g., ICE Gasoil, ULSD, palm oil, soybean oil, and other biodiesel-linked instruments).
Refinery Margin Management: Structure and manage hedge books for biodiesel refining margins (e.g., PO-GO, BO-GO, UCO-GO spreads), ensuring stable profitability across volatile feedstock and product markets.
Strategy Development: Develop and backtest structured hedging models to optimize biodiesel refinery margins, focusing on feedstock-to-product spreads (e.g., PO-GO, BO-GO, UCO-GO) and basis hedging between physical and paper markets.
Risk Management: Monitor price exposure, hedge effectiveness, and ensure compliance with defined risk parameters.
Market Intelligence: Conduct in-depth analysis of biodiesel, feedstock, and energy markets to identify trends, trading opportunities, and arbitrage strategies.
Reporting & Performance Tracking: Maintain accurate position and P&L reporting, and provide timely insights to senior management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with physical traders, refinery planners, and logistics teams to align paper and physical exposures.
Counterparty Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, exchanges, and counterparties to optimize execution quality and liquidity.
Skills & Experience Requirements
Experience: Minimum 5–10 years of experience in paper trading, derivatives, or risk management within biodiesel, renewable fuels, or related energy markets.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of biodiesel pricing structures, feedstock markets, and derivative instruments (futures, swaps, options).
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a quantitative discipline. CFA/FRM certifications are an advantage.
Market Understanding: Solid grasp of renewable energy policies, carbon intensity mechanisms, and regional biofuel mandates (RED III, LCFS, RINs).
Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and modeling abilities, with experience managing P&L exposure under volatile market conditions.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, relationship management, and cross-department collaboration skills.
Language: English proficiency required; Mandarin or Bahasa preferred.
Personal Attributes: Disciplined, analytical, proactive, and able to perform under market pressure.
