We are looking for a highly motivated and enterprising Category Executive for Fish & Seafood. This role is critical in shaping the strategic direction, sourcing, and commercial performance of the fish and seafood (fresh & frozen) category in FairPrice.

The candidate will be responsible for delivering strong commercial outcomes through data-driven and customer-led decisions, while working under tight timelines in a fast-paced retail environment. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, has a deep sense of ownership, and combines analytical acumen with a practical approach to execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Category Strategy & Planning

  2. Develop and execute category strategies aligned with company objectives and customer needs.

  3. Conduct regular reviews of category portfolio, pricing architecture, promotion strategy and merchandising principles.

  4. Identify opportunities to grow market share and enhance shopper perception of quality and value.

  5. Supplier Management

  6. Resourceful and negotiate to secure competitive pricing, stable supply, and best quality for fish & seafood.

  7. Build strong relationships with key vendors to ensure quality assurance and supply sustainability.

  8. Ensure compliance with food safety and quality, and sourcing standards.

  9. Pricing & Promotions Management

  10. Monitor market and consumer preferences, and competitor pricing to maintain competitiveness.

  11. Manage regular, tactical, and seasonal promotions to drive traffic and conversion.
  12. Work with key suppliers to secure supply for promotion.

  13. Submit, track and measure promotions.

  14. Sales & Performance Management

  15. Monitor category sales, profitability, and stockholding; take timely corrective actions.

  16. Analyse shopper behaviour, transaction data, and market trends to drive performance improvements.

  17. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  18. Work closely with operations, night buying, task force, supply chain, and marketing to ensure effective end-to-end execution.

  19. Align with the Food Safety and Quality team to ensure compliance and quality standards.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in category management, merchandising, or buying - ideally in the fish & seafood, fresh food, FMCG or supermarket industry.
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to perform under pressure with tight timelines. Quick turnaround.
  • Strong analytical and commercial skills; comfortable with interpreting data and making fast decisions.
  • Enterprising, hands-on mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent negotiation, strong communication and supplier management skills.
  • A self-starter who proactively initiates actions to drive category excellence.
  • Adaptable to change and willing to occasionally work beyond standard office hours to meet business needs..

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Passion for food and a keen interest in the seafood category.
