This project aims to develop novel metasurface-based quantum photonic platforms that enable high-dimensional quantum light sources. By combining solid-state emitters and nonlinear optics materials with metasurface-based photonic cavities, the research will establish a unified approach to control, enhance, and multiplex quantum and nonlinear optical processes at the chip scale. The work involves theoretical design, nanofabrication, and quantum-level optical characterization, targeting the realization of efficient, tunable, and high-dimensional quantum light sources for scalable quantum information processing system.

1. Design and realization of metasurface cavities for enhanced quantum-dot coupling. The first objective is to design and realize metasurface-based photonic cavities that provide strong field confinement and polarization control for embedded quantum-dot emitters, which enables Purcell-enhanced spontaneous emission and near-unity photon coupling efficiency. The designed devices will be fabricated in the state-of-the-art NUS cleanroom facility, using advanced electron-beam lithography, plasma etching, and precision material transfer techniques to realize deterministic cavity-QD alignment with nanometer-scale accuracy.

2. Demonstration of high-dimensional quantum-dot single-photon sources. The second objective is to demonstrate high-dimensional single-photon sources based on the metasurface-quantum-dot cavity developed in the first stage. By precisely engineering the metasurface design, the emitter will generate structured photons carrying multiple degrees of freedom such as polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM). Active tuning methods, including electro-optic or strain modulation, will enable dynamic control of emission wavelength, polarization, and OAM order.

3. Integration with nonlinear materials for high-dimensional entanglement generation. The third objective is to integrate the metasurface-cavity platform with nonlinear III-V material such as AlGaAs to realize bright, high-dimensional entangled photon sources. By leveraging spontaneous nonlinear parametric processes within a high-dimensional structured-light optical cavity, the system will enable multi-channel entanglement across frequency, polarization, and spatial modes, providing a compact route toward scalable on-chip quantum information processing.
   
   Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth theoretical and experimental expertise, as well as interdisciplinary knowledge in quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and nanophotonics. Candidates with practical experience in designing, fabricating, and characterizing quantum-dot single-photon sources or III-V material-based nonlinear photonic cavities will be highly preferred.

Job Requirements

1. PhD degree in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or relevant areas with a strong background in nonlinear optics, quantum optics and integrated optics.

2. Working experience and knowledge in the field of quantum physics, nonlinear optics, integrated photonics, and nanofabrication.

3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in nonlinear optics and quantum optics.

4. Technical proficiency: 1) numerical modeling and analysis experience of photonic cavities with appropriate software; 2) design and optimization experience of photonic cavities, including design of photonic cavities with high Q-factors and resonances. 3) experimental experience in optical characterization, including nonlinear optics and quantum optics. 4) Nanofabrication skills for cavity fabrication, including electron-beam lithography, reactive-ion etching and electron-beam evaporation.

5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

6. Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of nonlinear optics and quantum optics.

7. Open to Fixed Term Contract.
