Principal / Senior Engineer (M&E / Reliability / Automation)

Job Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Principal / Senior M&E Engineer - a master problem-solver - to join our team and serve as our ultimate technical authority.  At Markono Print Media Pte Ltd, a market leader in high-precision, large-scale printing, our reputation is built on quality, innovation, and relentless reliability.  Behind the scenes, our Engineering & Facilities Management department is the backbone of these operations, ensuring that our complex machinery performs at its peak to keep us at the cutting edge of the industry.  You will also lead improvements, drive automation, and contribute to our strategic capital projects.  You will be the go-to expert for some of the most advanced machinery in the industry, ensuring maximum uptime, efficiency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Complex Troubleshooting

• Serve as the highest level of technical authority for the escalation for complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system failures on printing presses, bindery lines, digital printers, and auxiliary equipment
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions
• Interpret advanced electrical schematics, PLC ladder logic and mechanical drawings to diagnose faults swiftly

Vendor Partnership & Technical Challenges

• Lead technical discussions with OEMs and vendor service engineers during breakdowns, installations, and upgrades
• Confidently challenge vendor recommendations and diagnoses when they are not supported by evidence or data, advocating for the most efficient and effective solution
• Validate the quality and completeness of work performed by external technical partners

• Spearhead continuous improvements and capital projects focused on enhancing machine reliability, performance, and automation
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians, elevating the entire team's competencies

Precision Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Utilise advanced tools (e.g., vibration analysis, thermal imaging, ultrasonic testing) to predict and prevent equipment failures before they occur
• Analyse equipment performance data to continuously improve maintenance strategies and intervals

Project Engineering & Continuous Improvement

• Lead and contribute to capital projects from conception to commissioning, including machine upgrades, retrofits, and new installations
• Identify and implement engineering solutions to eliminate bottlenecks, improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and reduce waste (e.g., setup times, material usage)
• Spearhead automation projects to enhance productivity and reliability

Safety & Compliance

• Champion a zero-incident safety culture
• Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with company safety policies and statutory requirements
• Lead safety risk assessments for machinery and processes

Knowledge Sharing & Training

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians
• Develop and deliver technical training sessions to upskill the maintenance team
• Create and update detailed maintenance procedures and documentation

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or related field; Diploma holders with proven expert-level experience will also be considered
• At least 8 years hands-on M&E engineering experience in a high-speed, automated manufacturing environment; experience in printing, prepress, or packaging is highly desirable
• Expert in troubleshooting PLCs, AC/DC drives, servos, and complex control systems; ability to interface with/modify code is a strong plus
• Deep mechanical knowledge: precision equipment, power transmission, pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid dynamics
• Strong ability to read / interpret advanced electrical and mechanical drawings
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects on time and within budget

• Able to explain technical issues clearly to both engineers and non-engineers / management
