Job Description
The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team at Duke-NUS Medical School's EID Programme, led by Dr. Alan Hsu, to drive groundbreaking research into the molecular mechanisms of severe disease pathogenesis caused by influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. This exciting opportunity allows a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to leverage innovative experimental models, next-generation technologies, and clinical samples to advance novel therapeutic development. As a Research Fellow, you will lead cutting-edge molecular, immunological, and bioinformatics projects, collaborating with national and international experts to build a robust research portfolio and contribute to global health solutions.
In addition, the role will include performing a variety of research activities such as planning, organising and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following:
- Design and execute advanced wet laboratory experiments, including human primary epithelial cell culture, cell differentiation, virus handling (BSL2), CRISPR knockout assays, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and confocal imaging.
- Conduct in vivo studies using animal models, including administering treatments, performing viral infections, and performing post-procedure molecular analyses.
- Perform bioinformatics analyses, with a focus on single-cell RNA-seq and/or spatial transcriptomics, to uncover molecular insights from complex datasets.
- Lead independent research projects while fostering collaboration with team members and external partners.
- Produce high-quality publications, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field attracting research funding.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive lab environment through peer mentorship and effective communication.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
Job Requirements
- PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, or other related disciplines.
- Have substantial wet lab experience in human primary epithelial cell culture, cell differentiation, virus handling, CRISPR assays, and immunological/molecular techniques (e.g., qPCR, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescent staining and confocal imaging).
- Proficiency in bioinformatics, with expertise in single-cell RNA-seq and/or spatial transcriptomics analysis.
- Have experience in flow cytometry and data analysis.
- Familiarity with in vivo animal models.
- Have strong knowledge of human innate and adaptive immunology and bioinformatics.
- Equipped with excellent communication and interpersonal collaboration skills to engage with diverse colleagues and global partners.
