About the Role:

We are seeking an exceptional and seasoned Head of Proprietary Futures Trading with deep expertise in Grains & Oilseeds to build and manage a high-performance proprietary trading book focused on sophisticated arbitrage strategies.

This is a pivotal, entrepreneurial role for a proven trader ready to take full ownership, design and execute complex strategies, and directly impact the firm's profitability by capitalizing on flow, and inefficiencies within agricultural futures markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Build & Manage the Book: Establish, develop, and actively manage a proprietary trading book specifically focused on Grains, Oilseeds, Vegetable Oils (Soy, Rapeseed, Sunflower, etc.), and related agricultural futures products.

Strategy Development: Design, research, and implement cutting-edge commodity arbitrage trading strategies tailored to the unique dynamics of agricultural futures markets (e.g., calendar spreads, inter-commodity spreads, basis trading, relative value, etc.).

Execution Ownership: Take full responsibility for the execution of trading strategies, ensuring optimal timing, liquidity management, and cost efficiency across various exchanges and clearing houses.

Market Analysis: Conduct rigorous ongoing analysis of global agricultural markets, including supply/demand fundamentals, weather patterns, policy changes, geopolitical events, and technical indicators to identify lucrative arbitrage opportunities.

Risk Management: Implement robust risk management protocols, monitoring market exposure, VaR, stress scenarios, and position sizing to protect capital and ensure disciplined trading within established limits.

Performance Tracking: Continuously monitor, analyze, and report on the performance of the trading book, identifying areas for optimization and refinement.

Market Insights: Stay abreast of technological advancements, regulatory changes, and market structure evolution impacting agricultural futures trading.

Potentially build and mentor a small team over time as the book grows.

Required Qualifications:

Proven track record of significant, profitable proprietary futures trading experience, with a strong focus on agricultural commodities (Grains, Oilseeds, etc.).

Extensive experience specifically developing and executing commodity arbitrage strategies in futures markets.

Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and scale a trading book or desk.

Deep understanding of global agricultural futures markets.

Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with a data-driven approach to strategy development and execution.

Strong command of trading risk management principles and practices.

Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced, volatile markets.

High degree of discipline, integrity, and attention to detail.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. (Equivalent demonstrable trading experience may be considered).

Desired Qualifications (Bonus Points):

Experience with automated trading systems or algorithmic strategy implementation.

Proficiency in programming languages useful for data analysis and backtesting (e.g., Python, R).

Existing relationships or networks within the agricultural trading community.

Experience managing or mentoring junior traders.
