Job Description:

Our client is a leading insurance provider offering a broad range of commercial and specialty insurance solutions. The Underwriting Manager will lead the underwriting function for commercial lines, ensuring the profitable growth of the portfolio while maintaining risk integrity. This role will be responsible for managing a team, evaluating complex risks, and developing strategies that align with the company's business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee underwriting for a range of commercial insurance products including property, casualty, liability, and specialty lines.
  • Evaluate complex risk submissions, determine appropriate coverage terms, and make sound pricing decisions.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, risk appetite statements, and approval authorities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, ensuring consistent underwriting practices and high performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for complex or escalated cases.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and performance reviews to build underwriting capability.
  • Monitor portfolio performance metrics including loss ratios, profitability, and growth trends.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk management teams to refine product strategies and risk models.
  • Work closely with distribution and business development teams to expand market presence and broker relationships.
  • Ensure underwriting operations comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Participate in audits, governance reviews, and reporting to senior leadership.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field; professional certifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU) are an advantage.
  • At least 10 years of experience in commercial underwriting, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Strong technical knowledge across various commercial insurance products.
  • Demonstrated success in portfolio management, underwriting strategy, and team leadership.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally.
