We are seeking an accomplished Consultant to target Japanese companies and supporting them on leading, managing and providing specialised legal advice on complex arbitration across the the South East Asia region primarily in the energy infrastructure segment. This role requires a good understanding of Japanese companies and their organisational structure, deep sectoral knowledge in the energy infrastructure segment, strong legal thinking, excellent advocacy skills, and proven experience in handling high-stakes commercial or regulatory disputes. The incumbent will provide expert legal advice, represent clients or the company in contentious matters, and contribute to business development or internal risk mitigation strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of complex, arbitration, and other dispute resolution matters from inception to resolution.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on disputes and contentious issues to internal stakeholders or clients.
  • Draft and review pleadings, submissions, witness statements, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with external counsel and manage legal spend, budgets, and litigation strategy.
  • Develop resolution strategies and support business development in collaboration with legal and business teams to target Japanese companies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in dispute resolution, litigation, or arbitration.
  • Experience in dealing with complex arbitration for energy infrastructure sector in Singapore.
  • Experience in international arbitration from top-tier international firms with a deep understanding of Japanese companies.
  • Proven track record in managing high-value or complex disputes.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Experience in cross-border disputes or international arbitration
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and client management skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex issues with discretion and professionalism.
